The conception of two people living together for twenty-five years without having a cross word suggests a lack of spirit only to be admired in sheep
                - Alan Patrick Herbert
This is the adage I found best to go with what this movie had to say and thats how the movie begins...with a lot proverbs about love sublty flowing across the screen.
What is life and marriage afterall, without its share of ups and downs!
We all at one point in time or the other, love someone soul deep. To the depths that we ourselves do not know exists.
More than that depth, is another depth, the self, the ego,the Me.
Love we say is self-less, immaterial of what the relationship is. The whole plot of the movie revolves around the same genre.
Reading and reading and reading reviews....Thats all I did as I waited for this movie to get released in the theatres here.
Despite all of the negatives I had read about UMAH,I still went ahead and watched.
To my surprise, excepting the draggy bit, Ajay’s elongated dialogues and the lyrics, everything else was just perfect!
Ajay Devgan has to be applauded, for his directorial debut as well as his talent as a  versatile actor!Kajol is as usual very good. The rest of the cast have done justice to their roles.

Coming to the main theme, I am writing this review in order not to reveal the plot, but to just share with you,the parts of the movie i loved and the messages I recieved.
Ajay, has made it a point to show us how friends make a difference in our lives and having the right kind of friends help us to be ourselves and do right.
Friends are timeless and are there to vent out our feelings. They are also the guiding slabs that support us when we are at fragile moments and need to do the right thing at the right time. In the movie his friends are this couple awaiting to get their divorce and another waiting to get married. Amidst their personal odds and differences, they all still make sure that Ajay does right.

He lies to Kajol[Piya], about his likes suiting her, just to impress her. But is later made to realise by his friends, that it is wrong to base a relation on false grounds.
The thought behind the action is the only reality and thus, with some drama, they do get married.

A life-partner, the better-half, soul-mate....the essence of every marriage.
Ajay faces crisis and goes through the trauma of separation. Being a doctor himself, it gets very difficult for him to accept his wife’s disease which is incurable.
This is the phase of life that sends all the messages to the audience about togetherness.
About friends, their support, about life and its lessons, about love and self-less-ness.
About the vows of care and that of staying together despite the odds.
About the factors that affect us and our decisions...the U and the Me. Its about how the ’I’ becomes superior than love and how one’s own soul mate suddenly becomes a stranger.
Its about how people make mistakes and learn from them and how sometimes the emotions weigh lesser than the self.
It is then he realises that ’She’ is more essential to complete him and his love, and that sacrificing anything for her is peanuts and at the end of it all, he will be doing himself a favour by being with her.
They finally get together and live happily ever after.

Tell me who admires you and loves you, and I will tell you who you are
         -Charles Augustin Sainte-Beauve

Cinematography is good. I loved the parts where Kajol’s eyes are focussed when she is confused and stranded on the streets on a rainy day.
Loved the scene when the drowning of the baby is shown extremely well. I dont think its a real baby, must be an artificial one. I dont know.

There are some good comic relief strips too. Simple locations and not many locations either unlike the usual Europe and US shot movies or songs.

In all, a movie that a to be married or married couples should watch.

Please do not go with a prejudiced mind set. Watch the movie with an open mind and then take your decisions about your like or dislike for the movie.

Like its said, A glass of water eg. You can either call it half full or half empty. Good or bad, you watch and decide rather than having a preset idea about the movie.

Take care and have fun watching...There is a lot to learn always!
