The length of the film

U Me aur Hum is a movie that proves the sensitivity of  Ajay Devgun as a person, director and actor..The storyline is long but not tedious, the treatment is sensitive and the acting of the highest level.
Once again what happened in the past repeats itself. Feroz Khan and Rakesh Roshan, the not so happening actors of yesteryears came up with movies that stamped their calibre as directors of repute.
Ajay Devgan might not have made it to the top but has proved his calibre by directing a movie that comes as a refreshing change to the hardrock movies of today.
The story is about a casanova psychiatrist on a cruise with his friends . He falls in love with a waitress on board, goes through her personal wishbook and plays cupid. He feigns to be a chocolate lover, salsa dancer and what not to woo her. She falls for him and he confesses of his lies. They marry. But life takes a turn when she is diagnosed as having Alzheimer’s and keeps losing her memory off and on. Doctors say that it will get worse with time. Ajay refuses to send her to the asylum. She gives birth to a baby boy . One incident shakes up Ajay and makes him rethink seriously. She forgets the child in a bathtub and he drowns. Timely medical aid saves his life but it leaves an indellible mark on Ajay’s mind about the insecure future of the child.
He puts Kajol in an asylum. The days after that are traumatic for both Ajay and Kajol and ends after the friends coax him to get her back despite the doctor’s advice not to do so.
The life of the couple forms the basis of the story. Ajay plays the psychiatric husband who transforms from a casanova to a caring husband and also portrays the dilemma in his mind between the doctor and a husband. He proves to be as effective in sensitivities as in action.
Kajol as usual is a natural actress who breezes through her role with the ease of a trapeze artiste. Her vulnerability shows in her eyes. She knows that she is not well. She also knows that she has to care for the child. She loves her husband and understands that she is the one disturbing the quilibrium of the family. And she shows the anguish as if it was real. At places she lacks the charisma of a bollywood heroine but more than makes up with her fine sense of acting.
The support actors also play their roles well.
The grace of the film is the fact that the couple accept their trysts in life and learn from them. They then enjoy their lives.
Its a must see movie for sensible moviegoers, one that has become a rare commodity these days.
