Pros:
Ajay, Kajol, cinematography, title track, ending, some scenes
Cons:
It's too slow in 2nd half; direction not completely perfect

With Aamir Khan scoring a sixer with his directorial debut Taare Zameen Par, everyone expected something similar from Ajay Devgan when

he turned director for U Me Aur Hum. Though Ajay does an outstanding job in his directorial debut flick, he falls short of reaching the Aamir Khan level. He doesn’t score a six, he surely scores a four!

The story of the movie: Ajay (Ajay Devgan) is enjoying with his friends Nikhil (Sumeet Raghavan), her wife Reena (Divya Dutta); Vicky (Karan Khanna) and her girlfriend Natasha (Isha Shervani) on a cruise when he comes across Pia (Kajol), a waitress on the cruise. Ajay fell in love with her instantly and started wooing her. He got hold of her diary and got to knew all her ambitions and desires and tried to fulfill them. Slowly Pia too felled in love with Ajay and then they both married. But with marriage come problems too. But the problem which arose was one which no couple had to face. 28 year old Pia was diagnosed with Familial Alzheimer’s Disease (an uncommon form of Alzheimer’s). What will Ajay and Pia do now?

U Me Aur Hum is a sensitive film and it has several moments which touch your heart-some even moves and shocks you. Ajay Devgan beautifully handled the story but I don’t feel he has done a 100% great job. U Me Aur Hum has a striking resemblance to Woh Lamhe which also had somewhat similar storyline and was better handled.

The first half may remind you of some typical Bollywood comic flick in which the hero woos heroine by telling her lies and lies. But though, no doubt, that the first half was thoroughly interesting and romantic.

However, it’s the second half where the film scores. This half has several shocking and highly touching moments which will linger in one’s memory for a long time. The best among them has to be baby’s bath sequence. It was completely frightening! But I feel Ajay made a mistake by showing it as a flashback sequence.

The last 20 minutes is the biggest plus point of the movie! The climax was really beautiful and sweet and manages to satisfy.

Unfortunately, a film like this has some share of flaws too. The film gets a little slow in the second half. Also, the film doesn’t have any moment which makes one moist-eyed, because of which the film is remarkable, but not unforgettable.

Ajay Devgan emerges as the winner! It won’t be wrong to say that the film rests on Ajay’s shoulders, even though the film centered on Kajol. In each scene he was wonderful. Special mention should be made of the scenes in which he was drunk. No overacting, no bad acting-it was simply a superb performance! It surely ranks as one of the excellent performances of this year!

Kajol also gave a wonderful performance, especially in the second half and in the climax. The actress, who was last seen 2 years ago in Fanaa, proves that she is still the capable actress. Excellent!

Sumeet Raghavan was a complete natural. Divya Dutta as usual gave a fantastic performance. Good to see she is getting more roles now. Karan Khanna, who gave a charming performance in Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, was wonderful this time too. Isha Shervani looked hot and did a good job. Hazel (of MP3 fame) didn’t have much to do but like her debut flick, here too she looked beautiful. Others were okay.

Vishal Bharadwaj’s music is not outstanding but is melodious and beautiful. The best songs were the title track (sung by Shreya Ghosal), ‘Jee Le’, ‘Saiyaan’ and ‘Kuch Lafda Hai’. Vishal Bharadwaj also sung the title track but sorry to say but he didn’t sing well. Sonu Nigam would have been the right choice for him. Munna Dhiman’s lyrics was quite different but was wonderful.

Monty Sharma’s background score was cool. Aseem Bajaj’s cinematography was outstanding and one of the best I have seen in Bollywood! Each scene looked marvelous and takes your breath away thanks to Aseem Bajaj’s outstanding work! His work was better than his previous flicks, esp Golmaal and Sunday. If anyone who emerge truly as a winner from this movie, then it is Ajay Devgan and Aseem Bajaj!!

Ashwani Dhir (director of One Two Three and writer of Krazzy4) wrote the dialogues of this movie and does a good job. Some of the dialogues were truly wonderful. Sutanu Gupta, Akash Khurana and Robin Bhatt’s screenplay was gripping and very effective, especially in the second half.

Ajay Devgan also excels as the writer (he wrote the story too)! It is surprising as to how he thought of such a wonderful story! As a director, he does an exceptional job and was first-rate. But he was not completely successful. He has done a great job, but I feel he could have done better. The movie touches you, but though it fails a bit. I can’t figure it out as to how and where he failed but he failed. But overall, he was great and in future, if he dons the director’s hat again, he will surely do a great job. :-)

Some of the good scenes of the movie:
1.    The first scene!
2.    The beginning of flashback (Takes your breath away!)
3.    Ajay and Pia’s first meeting
4.    Ajay reading Pia’s diary
5.    The intermission point
6.    Birth of their baby
7.    Baby’s hospitalization
8.    The last 20 minutes of the movie
9.    The final scene

On the whole, U Me Aur Hum is a well-made film which has several moments which touch you and linger in your memory even after coming out of the theatre. However, it fails a bit but though it manages to give a good experience! Watch it with your loved one!
