Pros:
Scintillating Kajol
Cons:
Substance less first half

Around two months ago when the first posters of this Movie had come out my wife (then Fiancee) had warned me that she would make me watch this movie irrespective of what the critics said about it.

Since
I have always had the vibes for Kajol (Honey, I hope you are not too much into Mouthshut) I readily agreed to her plea (order ??).

So we went to Saket on a Sunday with my parents to watch the movie. At 175 bucks, the tickets at Saket are a bit steep and you pay an additional 40 rupees ’convinience charge’ for an online ticket.

Anyway, the movie started on a light note on a cruise liner (Super Star Libra). Enters the protagonist, Ajay, and his soon to be love interest piya (Kajol). It’s love at first sight we are told. Through the first half Ajay tried to ’patao’ the girl and around intermission he finally succeeds and they are married.

This part of the movie lacks substance. When I went to buy popcorn and pepsi I remember telling my wife that there is nothing in the movie. I did not find the jokes, barring a couple,  funny. There are several times when the actors start saying the common Indian expletive but are either beeped or stopped by a co actor. Surprisingly, this does not seem out of place or vulgar. It goes along well with the script of the movie.

The action hots up in the second half when it is discovered that piya has Alzheimers disease. What follows is a journey through the emotions of Ajay. How he tries to handle the situation and manage things while his wife keeps forgetting her husband;s name, or the address to her house and even the baby in the bath tub. It is journey in which  Ajay eventually realizes what he truly wants in life.

This is where the movie really picks up. The acting is really good and even the jokes become funny. The story is told well in this half and grips you. There are times in the movie when you want to cry - like the song which says blatantly that a day will come when one of the two (of a couple) will depart for heaven leaving the other alone on earth. (Must say, just writing this makes my eyes water).

Kajol is looking like a hundred million bucks, but Ajay Devgan is not ageing well and seems tired even in the flashback. His acting is impeccable though. And the scenes when Kajol gets attacks of Alzheimer’s, you can literally get scared of her. She is just marvellous.

Ajay’s friends play a mojor role in the movie and there is mature, modern friendship between them. They drink, crack non veg jokes and pull each others leg. Pretty much like friends in modern India.

One other thing. I think newly married couples (like me) would like this movie. I remember that vivah, which was a terrible movie, was liked only by the engaged couples.

In all this is watchable movie because of the way it picks up in the
second half. It is not a great movie but not a bad one either.

Hey, forgot to mention - the music is not too great :(
