Bas yoon hi? Or are these my everyday tracks? Dunno. But I like these songs. They are nice. Some of them are slow, but most are fast. Some have deep meaning, which I have been unable to decode so far
and yet I have been listening to them since very long (after I was born, no second birth here). Without much dilly dallying, ladies and gentleman, following are my choices. I have not counted but I guess they sum up to twenty. #Vande Maataram (Maa tujhe salaam)– AR RahmanThere are some songs which have the power to move you in a special way. Vaande Maataram is one of them. Every time you play it does something to you. Probably the magic lies in Rahman’s voice, patriotic lyrics, the feeling of belonging to a country, or whatever, but Vaande Maataram is a special song with a special place. Whenever Rahman blurts out Vaande Maataram a part of you rises with his voice.
Vande Mataram has a history and Rahman has been successful in reliving it. It was actually used in the early 1900s as a cry for freedom. Though the entire song was in Sanskrit Rahman used only Vaande Maataram for his album, which was released on the fiftieth year of Indian Independence.
#Roja JaanemanThey are both masters of their worlds. And when they come together the result is usually magnanimous. I am talking about Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman. And examples of their unified success are the likes of Roja, Bombay, and Dil Se.
This particular song is a class apart. It talks of pain, the urge to break the shackles and meet one’s beloved, in other words it tells us the power of love. Lyrics are really good.
Jee raha hoon isliye
Dil mein Tera pyaar hai
Zulm sah raha hoon main
Bas tera intezaar hai. #Yoon hi chala chal and Yeh jo des hai tera from
SwadesThe song rocks for the umpteenth reasons. First it is a part of a movie really cool. Second Sharukh is in there and finally because Rahman has done wonder to it.
Yoon hi chala chal has been sung by Udit Narayan and hariharan. It is a sunshine song anticipating happiness and success in the road that lies ahead. Yeh jo des hai tera is Rahman’s rendition and again forces you to sit up and take notice of his magical musical power.
#Yaaron – Kay KayPhew….finally a non Rahman song. This one is from the movie Rockford. It talks about friendship, how it is a relationship like none other and praises the spirit of friendship. Lyrics for this song
Aasman ke paar shaayad…is another song from the same movie and really nice with good lyrics and tune and it has been sung by Kay Kay himself.
#Kal ho naa hoI consider this song as the song from our generation. It will be remembered and sung years ahead from now just like we enjoy the works of Kishore, RD and SD, Lata and Asha, Mukesh and Rafi, etc.
#Yeh hai Bombay meri jaan - CID I am sure everyone must have heard this song. Quite an old song the male voice cribs of life being difficult in an insensitive city like Mumbai (then Bombay). He sings,
Kahin building, kahin Trammey, Khain Satta Kahin Rail
Milta hai sab kuch ek milta nahin dil!The song ends with the female voice’s balancing act,
Aey dil hai aasan hai jeen yahan….#Do naina ek kahani – MaasoomEarlier I talked of Rahman Ratnam duo. Here the magic is created by Gulzar- Burman (RD) duo. Gulzar is the lyricist and Burmnan the music composer. Song has been wonderfully sung by Aarati Mukerjee. It is a delicate song.
Tujhse naaraz nahin Zindagi is yet another special from the fil Maasom.
#Sili hawaa chooo gayee and Pyaasi hoon main pyaasi rahne doBoth these songs move in opposite directions and are equally magical. Sili hawa choo gayi is soft, slow sad and sexy. While Pyaasi hoon main is full of energy. While listenionmg to these sons one can feel that Gulzar is in a way decorating and painting a woman’s passion desire and thoughts through words. He has done it successfully.
#Bhaage re mann kahin - ChameliSoft, sensual, lyrical and drenched with a woman’s fragrance. This is how I can best describe this one. Lovely song from a very nice movie.
#Aur kya aehede wafa hote hai This one comes from Sunny. Its difficult to get it from the stores. RD Burman uses the voice of Suresh Wadkar and lyricist Anand Bakshi to create this wonderful song.
#Mere jeevan saathiMere Jeevan saathi is a song compiled and consisting of bollywood movie names. It is a fast song and the use of movie combination to make sense is laudable.
#Raat ka nashaa abhi aankh se gayaa nahin -AshokaThe movie was not a hit but then this song has been played a lot many times since then.
#Yeh dil deewana - PardesI absolutely love this track. Probably Yeh Dil Deewana is my kind song, my story.
#Bin tere sanamI have absolutely no idea where this comes from. But bin tere sanam is a nice track. You can play it at a party, car, office or just any where.
#Dil hoom hoom kare ghabraaye – RudaaliBupen Hazarika’s version is the one that I like. He weaves a humming magic to this song. An effect that Lata is unable to create.
#Roz roz aankhon tale - JeevaThe song is good. Asha ji sings it wonderfully. However, Amit Kumar makes it sound even more wnchanting when he comes from the background and joins Asha. Again it is RDand Gulzaar’s magic in here we are talking about.
#Dil seThis is the title track of the movie and has sung by Rahman. I guess by now it is pretty cvlear whose side am I standing on. Of course it is Rahman bhai.
#Rooth kar humse kabhi jab chale jaaoge tum – Jo jeeta wohi SikandarI wanted to include Pehla Naasha but then this one is more cool. It talks about the rift created between two brothers and how one tries to win him back. I am drawn to both its composition and lyrics.
