.there are very few singers of present generation whom I really like, enjoy listening to AND ADMIRE FOR THEIR TALENT AND SINGING ABILITIES and SONU NIGAM is surely one of them.I won't call him a modern day RAFI, although his voice and style does resemble him.but anybody who follows music closely will know that it'ld be wrong to compare the two, personally I feel MOHD RAFI was league ahead of any singer of any generation.but definately SONU NIGAM is up there and on tops when compared to all his contemporaries and he does have immense talent.and what I like about him even more is the hard-work and struggle that he has done to reach where he is and command that respect.SONU NIGAM has sung some beautiful songs from the time he entered the film industry, even he has done some remarkable work in his pop albums.so i'll pick his twenty best from both his hindi film and pop music.
If I had to make an album of SONU's songs.these are the ones i'll put..
1.SAATHIYA, SAATHIYA, MADHYAM MADHYAM, TERI YE GILLI HASI.from the film SAATHIYA, it has to be one of my most favourite song sung by SONU NIGAM.Its a great composition, lyrics are beautiful too.but I think the amount of intensity and feel that sonu has sung it with.makes the song a sheer treat.
2.KISMAT SE TUM HUMKO MILE HO.from the film PUKAR.again a beautiful composition of RAHMAN, one of the most under-rated songs of SONU.singing and range wise.the way he has sung this song, with a classical touch is unbeleivable, beautiful song.
3.AISA LAGTA HAI, JO NA HUA.from the film REFUGEE, along with ALKA YAGNIK is one of SONU's best song till date.Anu Malik gave a great score for this film.and SONU sang almost all the songs beautifully but aisa lagta is one of my favourites.
4.TANHAYEE.from the film DIL CHAHTA HAI, is one of the most difficult song SONU must have sung, coz the hogh notes and pitch that this song has.is not easy but SONU did a flwless job in this song, great coposition, grt lyrics and super singing makes this song a delight to listen.
5.TUMSE MILKE DIL KA HAI JO HAAL KYA KARE.from the film MAIN HO NAA, composed by ANU MALIK, this song is very reminiscent of what MOHD RAFI would sing.its a qawalli song and the pitching of this song is very high.but SONU has sung it effortlessly, showing once again how great a talent he is.
6.MUJHE RAAT DIN, AB RE INTEZAAR HAI.from the film SANGURSH, composed by JATIN-LALIT, again a very beautifully composed song and SONU NIGAM's singing in this song reminds you of MOHD RAFI, the way he rendered the song is very similar to MR, very nice song.
7.KAL KO HA HO.from the film KAL HO NA HO, composed by SLE, really like this song.everything is perfect about this song, lyrics, music and singing.the amount of feel that SONU has sung it with is really great.
8.EK SAATHI AUR BHI THA.from the film LOC, i really like this song only coz of the way SONU has sung it, it will bring a tear to your eyes.so much feeling in his rendition.just listen to it once and you'll realise the amount of pain and feelings he has brought to the song.
8.SATRANGI RE.from the film DIL SE, composed by AAR, again showcased SONU's range as a versatile and great singer.remarkable song and singing, esp the part where he goes'DIL KA SAAYA HUMSAAYA SATRANGI RE'.
9.KAMBAKHT ISHQ.this song truly rocked and was kind of an athem song when it came out.the tune was addictive, lyrics were unusual and SONU, ASHA BHOSLE and SUKHWINDER SINGH.just lifted the song to some other level with their singing, awesome.
10.AHISTA AHISTA, MILTE HAI DIL SANAM.from the film YE ZINDAGI KA SAFAR, what a beautiful and melodious song.a very under-rated song of SONU, he has sung it so beautifully.very soft and mellow, love the song.
11.ZINDAGI MAUT NA BAAN JAYE, SAMBHALO YAARON.from the film SARFAROSH, i have seen many people singing this song at various music shows.but it is a very difficult song to do justice to, a very challenging and tough song.again the notes are very high but sonu did complete justice to it.
12.TERE BAHON MAIN HUM, JEETE MARTE RAHE.from the film KHAKEE, composed by RAM SAMPAT, is a great duet with SHREYA GHOSAL.both have done a flawless job in singing this song.SONU's voice is so expressive and that you can feel what is conveying through the song, great.
13.MERE ZINDAGI MAIN AAEYE HO, UR AISI AAYE HO TUM.from the film ARMAAN, composed by SLE, is again a very nice duet with SUNIDHI CHAUHAN.the song is very melodious and the singing also makes it so nice to listen to.
14.AAE CHAAND TERI CHANDNI KI KASAM, MERE PAAS BHI EK CHAND HAI.this song makes its way into this list just coz of SONU's unbeleivable singing.The song is from the film TERA JADOO CHAL GAYA.composed by SLE, flawless rendition by SONU.
15.CHAK DE CHAK DE, SAARE GHUM.from the film HUM TUM, i really love this song.its not only a very catchy song, lyrics are nice too.and SONU NIGAM and ALKA did a fantastic job in this one.
16.PIHU BOLE, PIYA BOLE, KYA YE BOLE JANU NA.from the film PARINEETA, composed by SHANTANU MOITRA.is a wonderful duet between SHREYA GHOSAL-SONU NIGAM one of my favourite singing pair.they both gel and compliment each others voice very well.and this song is a proof of that.
17.ISHQ BINA, KYA JEENA YAARON.from the film TAAL, composed by AAR, is such a beautiful song.love the melody and tune and ofcouse SONU did a remarkable job in singing it.
18.FIZA, FIZAaaa..a great song from the film FIZA, composed by ANU MALIK is one of SONU's best sung song.esp the way it opens, its so high pitched but brilliantly sung by him.
19.DEEWANA MAIN HUN DEEWANA TERA
.from his album DEEWANA, i really like this song only because of SONU'S SINGING, beautiful and passionate is the words for his singing in this song esp in the paras'YAAD TERI AANE LAGI, JAAN JAANE LAGI HAI'.
20.SARFAROSHI KI TAMANNA, AB HUMARE DIL MAIN HAI.from the film LOBS, sung by HARIHARAN and SONU NIGAM is one of my favourite songs of his.its so beautifully song, so much feel, sung from the heart and soul.effect is nothing short of magical.
So this sompletes my list of favourite songs of SONU NIGAM.he is a great singer so picking his twenty best is difficult, but these aremy picks.but my all time favourite song of SONU till now is SAATHIYA SAATHIYA, unbeleivable singing and melody.
