DOWN WITH PANCHAM!

Down with RD Burman!

Seriously!

Rebel_kid would be really happy reading my review but suddenly I have decided to go against my God and Guru! Why? You’ll know as you read on! I have come up with just 5 of his masterpieces, and you will see why I have every reason to hate them!

  1. TUM HO MERE DIL KI DHADKAN…

Singer: Kishore Kumar.

Movie: Manzil.

Who in the world told him to be so classy even with his ‘lifts’? I mean you can’t even call this one a lift! That was our confusing Burman…who was such an expert with drawing inspiration out of world and folk music, even the actual artists would have taken it as a complement if they heard a little piece of their notes entwined into his composition!

  1. JHUK GAYI AANKHEN TERI RAHON MEIN…

Singers: Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar.

Movie: Bhola Bhala.

What the hell! How annoying can it be…this song is just perfect! Mesmerizing and melodious, I can actually read the expressions on the faces of the lead pair, and see them pass the indirect looks and phrases at each other. Very Mills and Boon’ish…the two can’t confess their love to each other and sing in hints. The subtlety of the number is its beauty, and exasperatingly, only Pancham could do it! The worst part is yet to come guys, and your hearts would ache for me…I have to take a dose of this song at least twice a day!

  1. AYA HOON MAIN TUJHKO LE JAONGA…

Singers: Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle.

Movie: Manoranjan.

Couldn’t he have been a little more considerate about the coming generation of music directors…even past generation composers for that matter…who probably didn’t trash much time on making dual – rhythm songs! Who even had or has the time or expertise to create a number for just another movie…that keeps changing its rhythm from dance(fast and foot tapping) to groove(deliciously slow comparatively but crisp)? Who even cared?

  1. GHAR JAYEGI TAR JAYEGI…

Singers: Asha Bhosle.

Movie: Khushboo.

Now really, he should have at least thought about Anu Malick and the likes! Not their fault if the great tunes and compositions have already been done with! Beautifying such a simple song with innocence, charm, expectations and nostalgia cannot be everyone’s cup of tea! Ab kya kare…God has been just plain unjust while distributing the limited talent seeds!

  1. DHANNO KI ANKHON MEIN…

Singers: RD Burman.

Movie: Kitaab.

Ok ok, granted nobody else had or has that intoxicating effect of Panchamda’s voice, but this is exhibitionism! What was he trying to prove? That he can sound carefree, reckless, chivalrous, crazy in love and very Amitabh …all at the same time…which he unfortunately did? Alright fine…point taken!

Huh? Ugh! Where am I? Mouthshut.com? sorry guys, I was caught up in a trance…so forgive me for those maligning words I have used for the Rockstar…I just hope I have done justice to my review…just wanted to add a little spice to it! Waiting for your comments!
