I am priveleged to write a review on my favourite songs of Rafisaab. It is not an easy task, as others have said, to just pick 20 songs, and so, I am just going to provide a sample. I hope this review would be helpful to those who do not regularly listen to Hindi songs to learn some old songs and appreciate the greatness of Rafisaab.

I shall start with some duets first:

  1. Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar from Hum Dono(with Ashaji)- What a song to start the review! Its got to be one of the greatest duets to have ever been composed. If you want to go to heaven, just dim the lights in your lounge, sit on your recliner, close your eyes and listen to this song(late in the evening, of course).

  2. Tere Husn Ki from Leader-(with Lataji)- this is a close second just behind Abhi Na Jao. Another of my all time favourites. Simply beautiful!

  3. Woh Jab Yaad Aaye from Parasmani(with Lataji)- Lakshmikanth Pyarelal's first song. What a debut! This is what I call soulful singing. Whenever I hear this song, it always makes me sad that Rafisaab passed away at such a young age(I don't know why I feel that way when I specifically listen to this song).

  4. Diwana Hua from Kashmir Ki Kali(with Ashaji)- The humming by Rafisaab at the start of the song is simply beyond description. Ashaji has also sung so beatifully! Another of my all time favourites.

  5. Dil Pukaare from Jewel Thief(with Lataji)- there is a similar song in Tamil, but I love this song a lot better(although I am tamilian and can understand the lyrics in the tamil version better). Gem of a song!

  6. Anakhon Hi Aankhon from CID(with Geeta Dutt)- This is my most favourite among the Rafi-Geeta Dutt duets. Very sweet song. I wish Geeta Dutt had looked after her health, and sung a lot more songs.

  7. Zindagi Bahar Nahin from Barsaat ki Raat(with Lataji)- Absolutely melodious! A song that you will never get bored listening to. Picturised on the most beautiful woman to have ever appeared on Indian screens!

  8. Aap Yun Hi Agar from Ek Musafir Ek Hasina(with Ashaji)- Another bedtime song! The two illustrious sisters have each sung so many beautiful songs with Rafisaab, and it is so hard to just select a few among them.

  9. Agar Mein Poochon Jawab Doge from Shikari(with Lataji)- Some may be surprised by my inclusion of this song among the top, but this is a gem of a song, sung so beautifully by both legends. Sadly, this song was picturised on two not so well known actors.

  10. Gunguna Rahe Hai from Aradhana(with Ashaji)- this is easily among my all time favourties, and am sure it is for many others. I first heard this song from a tea shop while I was walking to school, and remember standing outside that shop until the song was over!

  11. Tasveer Teri Dil Mein from Maya(with Lataji)- One of the greatest evergreen duets!

  12. Tujhe Pyar Karte Hain from April Fool(with Suman Kalyanpur)- For a long time, I thought this was Lataji's song. Suman Kalyanpur has sung so beautifully with Rafisaab. The tamil version(naan malarodu thaniyaaga) is equally good.

Solos:

  1. Tere Mere Sapne from Guide- what a song! Tere Duk Ab Mere, Mere Suk Ab Tere, Tere Ye Do Nainaa, Chaand Aur Suraj Mere, vow, what lyrics! what lovely music by SDB! what a singing! I wish he had lived a lot longer, but then they say "those whom the Gods love die younger"(I also love Din Dhal Jaye from the same movie).

  2. Mein Nigahe from Aap Ki Parchaiyan- If you have had a difficult day, just listen to this song before you go to bed!(there is also another lovely song from the same movie- Yehi Hai Tamanna)

  3. Hum Aur Tum Aur from Dil Dekho Dekho- Kya Gaana Hain! Beyond words!

  4. Jo Bhaat Tujh Mein from Taj Mahal- Melody, thy name is Mohammed Rafi! You are irreplaceable.

  5. Yeh Zulf Hai Agar from Kajal- Very sweet song. Very softly rendered.

  6. Teri Aankhon Ke Siva from Chirag- One of the best solo songs. I like Lataji's version too.

  7. Tumhari Zulf Ke Saye from Naunihaal- a beauty from Madan Mohan. Who else but Rafisaab to sing a song like this?

  8. Ehsaan Tera Hoga from Junglee- I love both versions of the song(sung by Rafisaab and Lataji respectively). He was the perfect voice for Shammiji.

As I have stated in the title, this is just a sample!
