I first discovered the songs of Rafi saab through my dad who is major fan. Ever since the age of about 12 or 13 I have been hooked. His voice could capture any conceivable emotion, sadness, loneliness, craziness. you name it he could sing it!
I have read many things about Rafi saab and the the thing that strikes me the most is the fact that everyone who ever knew him described him as the most humble men they had ever met.
Considering the fact he was the most popular male playback singer for over three decades, this is quite amazing.
Another thing that struck me is that he didn't want to receive royalties for the songs that he sung, this was in fact the reason he fell out with Lata Mangeshkar for a few years, because she did want to receive royalties.
I have to say though that he sang his best duets with her, some of the most beautiful songs such as Tumse Door Rehke, Dil tera Deewana, Mujhe Kitna Pyar hai tumse to name some of my favourites.
In comparison, todays songs just don't measure up at all. The golden age is gone. The era of Himesh Reshammiya and his'songs' is here to stay.
My top Mohd Rafi songs are(in no particular order because I can't choose!)(These include duets)

It is cruel fate that he was snatched from the world at a fairly young age and so depriving us of another two decades of his songs.
There will never be another like Rafi Saab.
