After about half an year of usage the unit started to display error message:
"[Charging ERROR] Insufficient Input Voltage" when attempting to charge form PC USB port or external power supply (PSU brick with USB plug)
I updated the player FW to 1.00.12 but it did not help. Transcend FAQ asserts that message appears when power source used for charging is not sufficient. To test that I rigged the USB socket to laboratory 5V power supply with +2A power rating and I got the same message. The PSU readout indicates that charging current is never higher than 0.33A. I guess that Transcend covers up some HW issue here.
After playing with PSU I found there is a trick you can sue to make charging work:
Turn on player.
In main menu press and hold the rocker button in up position.
You should see volume adjustment indicator.
While volume indicator is increasing, plug USB cable connected to turned on power supply.
Important: the volume must keep changing at the moment of plugging the cable (cannot be stopped at max position)
If necessary set volume to 0 first and then start from 2.
What I liked:
FLAC support
Basic but very usable text file reader.
Built in radio.
Recorder with source selection of built in microphone, radio or external line in (!)
What I hated:
Lack of file sorting (?!)
Lack of any kind searchable MP3 database
In the end, there is no beating the rock box.
