Dilip Kumar - Vaijayanti Mala
This pair has had I think the most number of hits in the film industry. Gunga Jamuna, Naya Daur, Madhumati, Devdas, Paigam, Leader are the most prominent ones. There was certainly a good coordination & chemistry between the two. There was a wide acceptance to this pair & the roles they did had a great variety. Several memorable songs have been pictured on them. Ude Jab Jab julphe teri, Mang ke sath tumhara, Nain Lad jayee hain, Do Hanso ka joda, Dhundo Dhundo re sajana, Ek Shehensha ne banawakar hansi taj-mahal, Kya karu apase pyar hain.
Amitabh - Rekha
A high profile pair, a lot of gossip & discussions were carried on them. He always refused that there was something between them & prefers not to speak on this issue, leaving a lot of room for gossip. Several mega hits from this pair. As absolute chemistry that wasn't seen from years after Raj Kapoor & Nargis. Mr Natwarlal, Khoon Pasina, Silsila, Ganga ki sougandh(?). She called him his love of the life & says it hurts her the most that he never acknowledged their relationship. Public just LOVED this pair & still regards them as the best on screen pair of the Hindi movies.
Raj Kapoor - Nargis
The most romantic pair of Indian cinemas & probably the most controversial at the end of their stinct together. While together they gave several mega hits & countless movies. Awara, 420, ChoriChori, Aag, Aah, Jagate Raho(Guest Appr by Nargis). After the break-up Raj Kapoor indulged in pitiful things to show that he had forgotten her or neglecting/couldn't care less her etc. One of the reasons I disregard him.(I honestly think we should not judge an artist by their personal life behavior but he himself let his personal life get in his profession & thats the reason). While together they were a dream pair, full of on/off screen chemistry & synchronization.
Anil Kapoor - Madhuri Dixit
Qualitatively I am not able to remember any movie where this pair gave a great performance but they have done quite a few movies together & people just loved them. Madhuri was also able to give hits with other actors but Anil Kapoor didn't get similar costar again. Sridevi did have good movies with Anil Kapoor but not even close to what Madhuri had. Tezab, Beta, Khel, Kishan Kanhaiyya, Jindagi Ek Juwa & more.
Dharmendra - Hema Malini
Dream girl & He-man!:). A terrific combination!:) A'contrast-couple' but they did complement each other very well & performed in several movies. Hema Malini had similar number of hits & appearances with Rajesh Khanna too but Dharmendra Hema malini pair gets the nod due to their on-off screen coalition!
Dilip Kumar - Madhubala
A pair both off-on screen. Did a landmark performance together in Mugal-E-Azam. An early appearance in Tarana is also noteworthy. The pair couldn't become a real life couple due to some family issues but still today Dilip Kumar get sentimental while talking about her. Thought of including here as he was/is treated as the standard of the acting abilities in Indian films & she is believed to be the beauty to be compared with!
Amir Khan - Juhi Chawla
QSQT made them & also made them very hard to get out of it. They repeated it in Love Love Love, again appeared in several movies like Hum hain rahi pyar ke, Ishq etc. The really clicked together from the get-go. Somehow, they had some differences after Ishq & never worked together. Interestingly they both got good partners after that & didn't feel the void like some of the other good pairs that public loved. They were both labeled as'cute category'. Aamir did come out of it but Juhi suffered a little more. She is also multi-talented & a very nice person.
Govinda - Kariashma Kapoor
Man.what a weird pair! She, from one of the most influential family in the entertainment industry & almost a representative of a'westernized Indian' family. Govinda'Virar ka chhokara' from a middle-class family & a down to earth lovely/lively person. Together they created a havoc in the David Dhawan's movies. Coolie #1, Hero #1, Sajan chale Sasural, Khuddar etc. Sarkai lo khatoya jyada lage!:) Main to raste se ja raha tha, Main tujko bhaya laya, Tu mere tu mera hero#1. Husna hain suhana ishq hain deewana(Goriya chura na mera jeeya), Jeth ki dopara main aag lage hain sainya aag lage hain. Tum to dhokebaj ho wada karake. They both had a good sense of humor specially Govinda gave a 100% entertainment package with David Dhawan. This is the pair public preferred to forget their life & enjoy few entertaining moments. She stopped working with him to be taken more seriously as an actress(a pity I think) making way to Raveena - Govinda dhamal. Otherwise there would have been a lot many hits from this pair. Ankhiyo se goli mare, Kurta fad ke, Chalo Ishq ladayen chalo oshq ladayen! etc that went to Raveena.
Shahrukh - Kajol
I can't believe I am including this pair here. The basic reason is the number of hits & a wonderful movie like'Dilwane Dulhaniya.'. She is a very good actress & has an objective evidence to prove that. He, on the other hand always had & still has the potential to be a good actor!:) At the age of almost 40 he is still refusing to grow-up. He is representative of the cosmo culture & that is his biggest limitation: Unaware of how a common Indian lives/thinks. This pair specially lives(in all the movies) in a different world that hardly exists in life in India but people would like to be part of that world. I hope Shahrukh does some movies that show his acting potential. The pair though has an amazing success rate & the teens loved them in the 90s. The teens grew up but the pair didn't!:) It seems, I write more when I criticize!:)
Dev Anand - Nootan
Actually, Dev Anand & Sauraiyya was more a high profile sort of pair but I have not seen many of their movies. I think Dev Anand - Nootan did display a very good understanding & rapport in Paying Guest & Tere Ghar Ke Samane.Yahin din hain masti ke scene hain(Chhod do anchal), Dil ka Bhanwar, Te re Ghar ke samane, Tu kaha ye bata, Sunle tu dil ki sada, Dekho rutha na karo.baat iss dil ki suno.
I am sorry that I am not able to accomodate the most successful actress of all times ASHA PAREKH in here, She formed a great pair with Rajesh Khanna, Shammi Kapoor, Joy Mukherji, Vishwajit(even Jitenmdra) & countless other actors. She was & still is the MOST successful actress in Indian cinema of all times
Other notable pairs that I couldn't include: Amitabh - Rakhi; Rajesh Khanna - Asha Parekh; Shahrukh - Juhi; Rajendra Kumar - Sadhana; RajendraKumar - Saira Banu; Shammi - Asha; Govinda - Raveena; Dev Anand - Wahida Rehman.
