The last time when we went to Goa in the summers of 2007, we had a lot of family with us. Everyone knows the heavenly place that Goa

is. The beaches, the fresh breeze, the beautiful green countryside and the long winding roads can take anyone’s breath away. We had no doubt been to Goa on several earlier occasions but since we were in a large group this time it seemed like far more fun. One evening someone suggested that our trip to Goa wouldn’t be complete till we visit TITOs.

Even though I have never been a dance freak or a nightclub type of person, I agreed mainly since I had heard so much about this place and the entire hep crowd that visits here. Tito’s is located near the Calungute and the Baga beach and it’s very hard to miss it. All the locals know about it and will give you directions enthusiastically.

The Parking

The approach to the place is not very open or as impressive as its reputation might make you believe. In fact one has to go through some lanes to get there, but still that is quite an experience in itself, given the ambience of Goa, I may add. There is ample open parking in the area opposite to the complex. Its not metal led or such and late in the nights the crowd could be overwhelming, but since we went at around 10.30PM, we had no problem finding a vacant spot for parking.

The Restaurant

Since the disc opens only at 11.00PM we decided to have dinner first. While you walk from the parking area, you will come to the restaurant first. Don’t expect a very grand kind of star rated place. It’s just a big eating-place with a garden sitting area kind of ambience. The lighting and décor is nice and pleasing. The crowd is mostly foreigners and Indian holidaymakers. Hardly any locals visit here. The music is very tastefully chosen and adds a very pleasing effect to the ambience. Candles in jars on the tables complete the atmosphere.

Not ordering any hard drinks would not have been appropriate here. But since I have long given up drinking anything except wine, we ordered a bottle of white wine plus cocktails and mock tails for the ladies. The waiters that take the order are well versed in explaining the myriad foods listed on the menus and you can choose from almost any type of food from any part of the world, starting from North Indian, Tandoori, Goan, Mexican, Thai, Italian et all. Since we were 3 couples, we decided to order dishes from several types of food categories and share the same. Plus for me we ordered steamed vegetables and a tandoori assorted palate. This is the lightest in terms of calories and fats. However I assured everyone that I would sample all other dishes from them too.

The wine and cocktails were served with complete élans and the food was excellent. It took them about 45 minutes to bring the food, in which time we enjoyed our drinks. I would surely give one advise to people visiting here though. The toilets here leave a lot to be desired and are best avoided. Or at least do make up your mind before going in so that you are mentally prepared.

The Discotheque

Overall the two and a half hours that we spent here were memorable. It was nearing 1.00AM by the time we finished our dinner and the disc had enough activity for us to join in. The entry charges per couple are Rs 500.00 and single men are not allowed. The atmosphere inside is really very nice and up market. The disc is fairly large sized and has many sections. In addition to the main dance area and bar, there are pool tables and seating places for people who don’t want to dance, just sit with their drink and enjoy the atmosphere and crowd. One can also climb up the stairs and get a balcony table with a lot more privacy and also a great view of the dance area. Even though I am hardly an expert in discs, but just to give the readers an idea, this place is at least double the size of JW Marriott’s Enigma of Mumbai.

Since we had already had a very sumptuous meal, we did not order much snacks or drinks here. Only some of the guys had a couple of beers. But I have heard that the drinks within the disc are quite expensive. The crowd again consisted mostly of foreigners and holidaymaker Indians. However a lot of local boys seemed to be hanging around on the outside, probably either waiting to esc*rt some single girls in or to find some pickups. The security consisting of plenty of bouncers is good enough to ward off any untoward instances.

The music in the Disc is on a different theme everyday, and we were lucky to land there on the “Hip Hop” day. I found the music neither too loud nor too brash for older couples like us. On the whole we really had a whale of time, and I would recommend this experience to anyone visiting Goa.
