Recently one of my friend got married. Before his wife comes, he wanted to purchase a fridge and an LCD TV. He asked me to visit with him to a nearby TMC showroom in Dilsukhnagar. As every hyderabadi knows, TMC is the most famous consumer electronics chain in Hyderabad, and people just purchase the items blindly from there. So we went TMC, it was fully crowded. On every item they had mentioned the MRP and below that “our price”. Will you believe that the fridge my friend selected had the MRP of 18300 Rs, and TMC was giving it at a price Rs18100 (Rs 200 less, is it not quite impressive). So my friend agreed to purchase that fridge. We asked the sales man for further reduction in price. He said BIG NO and informed us that it is the final price and we are giving scratch card offers for free gifts. So my friend agreed to purchase that fridge.
I said to my friend that I am not comfortable for only 200Rs less from MRP. So we should check the price at some other shop also. But my friend was not so happy with this idea (may be because of TMC brand name), but he agreed. Meanwhile we checked the price of a 320lr fridge also. It was around 23500Rs. In general the LCD prices were less by around 2000-3000 from their MRP. My friend was interested in SonyBX300 LCD TV for Rs 31900.
We went to another shop, here the offer price for the same fridge was 17800Rs. So, directly further 300Rs less than TMC. By that time it was 9’o clock night. Suddenly I remembered that 2years back I had taken LG scarlet TV from Bajaj electronics at Punjagutta. I asked my friend to visit there also before making a final purchase. By listening this idea he got annoyed but did not express his feelings, since he eagerly wanted to purchase something. By that time it was already 9’o clock of night, so we decided to go to Bajaj electronics the next day.
So next day we went to Bajaj electronics at Punjagutta. First thing after entering the showroom I did was that I asked the price of same Rs18100 fridge; Will you believe this, SALESMAN TOLD 16800Rs. It means without any bargaining directly 1300Rs benefit. My friend now was very happy and asked the price of 320lr fridge also which was 23500Rs at TMC. Now again will you believe; salesman told for the same fridge Rs21000. Directly 2500Rs benefit. Now my friend was very very happy and finally settled for 320lr fridge, whose price at the time of billing salesman further reduced by himself by Rs100.
We purchased a Samsung 32” LCD TV for Rs29000 (MRP 35900). If the same LCD he had purchased at TMC, then by assuming that TMC is reducing the price by 3000Rs from MRP, it would have costed him 32900Rs. It means my friend had notional gains of 3900Rs on LCD.
In the end, my friend saved his valuable Rs. 6500 on total purchase and gave me a Lunch treat.
Moral of the story: Don’t go for so called famous TMC showrooms. They are very arrogant and cheaters. They behave as they are doing any favor for us if we are purchasing something there. Also don’t get lured for any free gift in the name of any scratch card schemes or like that. Remember, there are no free lunches in this world.
Finally, I will recommend Bajaj electronics for all electronic items. Definitely you will get the best deals there. My suggestion, before going to Bajaj, check the price at other places also. You will see the difference.
