Tips On Obtaining Hotel Discount

I worked for a hotel for 3 years at the front desk and in reservations and know the ins and outs of getting a great rate on your hotel room. First off even if you are in a hurry and had a bad day the
person you talk to on the phone knows the information you are seeking and if you are nice to them they will be nice to you.

Government discounts
If you work for the government or have a military id be sure to ask about the government rate. Even if you are not traveling for government business. Most hotels offer free breakfast and a great rate for government people. Be prepared to show your id at check in.

Business Travel
If you are traveling for business let them know. THere are special business rates at most hotels.

Ask for specials
If you don’t ask you will never know! Hotels often run special rates and all you have to do is ask.

Check for coupons online.
There are coupons out there. I have noticed a book at restaurants called the hotel guide, and they have half price coupons in them.

Don’t travel during busy seasons.
Locally we have hydroplane races the last week of July and the rates at all the hotels goes up. Check with the local visitors guide and plan around busy weekends if you are able to change your travel dates.

Priceline.com
When I worked at the hotel I was amazed how cheap we sold rooms for on priceline. You can get great rates there. Don’t think your price will be to low we sold rooms for $20 a night when we were desperate for guests in the hotel.

The longer you stay the cheaper it is.
Some hotels have long term guest discounts. Ask and you shall receive.

Always remember to ask for discounts, the worst thing they can tell you is we do not have any. Also if your hotel stay is unacceptable be sure to bring it to the attention of the front desk manager or if it is really bad the hotel manager. Comment cards are also good for that if you are in a hurry and can’t wait for the face to face time. All managers are supposed to respond to the negitive comments to make things right with the customer.
