If you are looking for a classic adventure novel with some romance in it, then you should give this book a read. A very popular french classic of all time, is the The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. A poor nobleman named d’Artagnan travels to Paris with the intentions of becoming one of the Musketeer, with fifteen crowns, a horse, and a letter of introduction to M. de Tréville, who commands the King’s Musketeers.
Once in Paris he meets Treville and also manages to duel with the three musketeers - Aramis, Athos, and Porthos. However, they later end up being the best of friends, ready to give up their life for the other. The story is all about the four's adventure of defending the honor of the regiment and the honor of the queen of France, along the way d’Artagnan's also ends up falling in love. Alexander Dumas has managed to sketch the heroes of this story so beautifully, that they are read of so fondly till date. However, to give a special mention is his female villain. Milady is one of literature's most memorable female villains. In this novel, Alexander Dumas has managed to add historical facts & events though they might not be so accurate.
A big salute must be given to the author for being able to add humor in such an intense, adventure story. His sense of humor makes the book a fun to read classic. The style of narration is light, the most appealing thing about the author's style of writing is his way of describing life of that time without being too exhaustive. It is timeless classic that has friendship, romance and lot of adventure & sword fighting.
