Thekkady was the second place in our journey of Kerala, very famous for two things, wild life and spices. The very famous Periyar Tiger reserve is there and they say that one can see Wild Elephants and Tigers, but its only a matter of Luck. The area is so Large approx. 700 Sq. Kms. Of Forest so how can one expect to see animals on the shore, where we are roaming. The boat ride is also enjoyable, only the thing is its somewhat slow & lengthy, but is a unique experience as the Lake is very big. We had a binocular with us which helped us to see some animals which were somewhat far from our line. It’s a good natural place which has no doubt of it. If your expectations are high on watching animals then one may disappoint, only in the return, monkeys (alert on their feet) may see you off. Our stay was there for one day only but cannot be neglected if I value comprehensively.

The other attractions were Elephant Ride which is also a different experience indeed, especially enjoyed by children. Then the other thing (mainly for Gujarati), is there is a restaurant - Shiv Priye (small setup but authentic food ) in the market and they serve authentic Gujarati Thali, which after many days was deliciously enjoyed. And shopping lovers will find heaven of spices as in the market is available genuine priced good quality Spices. We bought Elaichi, Clove, Taj and Black Pepper and gifted generously too.

Then there, what the other attraction for us was the Hospitality of our Hotel where we stayed, it truly warmed up us. We had “Thekkady Wild Corridor” which is nicely located amidst the Jungle and purely they are service minded people, though setup was somewhat old but strategically built, it was a memorable stay for us.

All in all, though Thekkady, if expected highly can be below average, but can be a destination for 1 day in between ur journey from Munnar to Alleppy/Kumarkom, which can become memorable too.
