Ok...so here it is...it has finally come out. The long awaited movie that has created a load of absolutely unnecessary hype. Afterall it’s a MOVIE!!! My cribbing aside...

Plot: Not going
to reveal it---and it is a bit hard to reveal with how complex the story actually is.

Critics: The critics are bashing this movie to no end and I cannot understand that at all. Then again the critics usually never know what they’re talking about so why go by what they say.

General Thoughts: For those who have read the book the movie may be a disappointment. Personally I have read the book and still enjoyed the movie (just try not to think of the book while watching-it’s hard I know). The director/scriptwriter has taken certain liberties to change around parts of the story which would have best been left the way they were in the book (the movie feels kind of choppy and I feel that is very unfair to the novel).

Cast/Acting: Tom Hanks was not who I had imagined as Langdon at all while I was reading the book. So I went in with no expectations but came out surprised. He did a good job and I feel he made his own sort of Langdon. Not necessarily the one we may have imagined while reading the book. The actress playing Sophie’s role is BAD!!! She looks confused and does not portray the intelligent Sophie Neveu from the novel at all. There are moments where she gives Tom Hanks these deep looks attempting to create some level of chemistry but it fails horribly. Also it hard to understand her with her accent. Teabing’s character is portrayed decently though again not how I had imagined at all while reading the book. The others are just ehh...nothing memorable. Some of the characters actually seemed to be way off and matched nothing to the descriptions provided in the book. So Tom Hanks was definitely the surprise package.

Script: Ehh the plot holds together for the most part though so much is left unsaid. No justice is done to all the historical detail that Dan Brown goes into in the book and the audience is left wanting much more...in terms of answers of why...who...when??? The attempts in the script to briefly cover some of the major historical events (that Langdon and Teabing talk about in the book) just does not cut it.

So in closing...do NOT listen to the critics and give the movie a chance. I am not saying it is the best movie you will ever watch (or will even fall in your favorite top 10 list) but it is worth the movie ticket contrary to what some ppl are saying. If you put aside all the hype around the movie/book and also the high high expectations you may have and just go watch the movie as you would go watch any other one then you will be thoroughly entertained for 2 and a 1/2 hours. But I must add in...regardless of whether you have seen or plan to see the movie or not definitely read the book. It is worth it!!! Even if the movie does not prove to be engrossing the book definitely is.
