Story:

Well, I finished a book of 385 pages in just 3 days, well that just need a clap for my effort, but that certainly need a bigger clap for the book, and that book is "The Secret of the Nagas", the 2nd book of the Shiva Trilogy by Amish. I am awestruck, and no words are coming to my mind except "SIMPLY AWESOME" yes that was the magic of this wonderful book, and when you have a high expectation from a book, and then you such lines for it, you can guess that book was not less than a marvel, and yes it's delievers, the things which I missed after reading the first part of trilogy, being a fan of LOTR of JRR Tolkien, that quest is filled by this book, and I am full of charge and just waiting for the third part to release.

About the Author and the book - As the author's note talks about expectation from him to deliver the best after the huge success of first book, and his best try to give nothing less than the first, and asking the reader to judge that I will yes, YES YOU'VE GIVEN THE BEST. Amish Tripathi, an ex-banker is one of the Indian author to look for, just forgot the hyped love authors. He just know how to write magic. And delievering the best when he knows that expectation are sore high after the success of first book, he stands tall. This book has a wonderful cover to start with, with a man of Shiva's stature, the Indian-God, holding a wonderfully designed snake wrapped around his hand, designed by Rashmi Pusalkar supported by Chandan Kowli and Chintan Sareen. Book goes for 396 pages, which contains contents, main story, author's note and a glossary at the end. There are 23 chapters in all.

The story - This book starts where first book ends. Shiva had to find out the truth whether the Meluhans/Suryavanshis are right or the Chandrawanshies are. He attacked the land of Chandrawanshies as guided by Suryavanshies, but are they evil. He found out the truth behind them, and then there are Nagas, the worst tribe, who has killed Shiva's best friend Brihaspati. Shiva had to find the killers and the Nagas, and this journey till the land of Nagas is filled of many secrets, many twists and turns, many stories of valour, and the belief about what is good and what is evil. This journey just went on and on, till the last page, giving many secrets yet maintained some for the next sequel "The Oath of the Vayuputras".

Characters: We have Shiva, the Mahadev, who had to bear the brunt of finding evil from the good, and to decide what is truth and what is belief, and what is the difference between them, he is perfect masculine character, to whom everybody bows. Then there is Sati, his wife who is equally courageous, and went on to hunt a pride of lion alone. They have equally wonderful commander in Parvateshwar, who fell in love with beautiful and sensuous princess Anandmayi, and later got married to her, and their part bring the love matter in this book. Anandmayi's brother Bhagirath who will follow the path of his lord Neelkanth to anywhere, and Shiva's friends Nandi and Veerbhadra supported him in all times. Then there is Daksha, the king of Meluha, who bore many secrets, a talented doctor Ayurvati. a fearsome bandit Parshuram, and two secret characters, who are Nagas, are there to support and maintain the charm of the book till the end. To know it all, read it all, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.

Pros - A very well written, full of journey, which I missed in book 1, fast paced thriller, easily readable, simplest of language, wonderful narration and a mind-blowing plot are just the few positives to describe the book, I cannot tell you about the relief ar feel of satisfaction, you got when you read it, since it depends on readers. I was not going as fast, but the words are automatically flowing in to me, it is such a fast attention grabber, and simple, that when you realize that it's the time to sleep you find that you've already covered more than a 100 pages in one single day. I completed 385 pages in 3 days says it all. The book has everything in it - war, fights, thrills, love, sensuosness, twists, turns, secrets and adventures.

Cons - Well, it's a sequel, and one more book is yet to come, so it's one bad point, as you've to wait for that book to come, and so you've to wait for the remaining secrets. Also in 2-3 chapters I felt Amish inspired by some foreign book/movie, and added bits and pieces from it, but the good thing was he didn;t carried away, and just came back nicely right after 2 pages.

I completed 'The Immortals of Meluha' (book 1 in trilogy) and Matthew Reilly's 'The Six Sacred Stones' (book 2 in trilogy) almost simultaneously, and then I was eager to read the sequel, but I was more inclined towards the foreign book more that the Indian one, because of it's fast pace but I completed the Indian one first as I got hand on it first, but I must say that if a book is written like this than not only me, even a rookie will like to get hand on it, and will complete it fastly. That's the effect of Amish here in book 2. Do read and write review. My take 4.5/5.
