This book is one of the best reads of fiction or mythology genre,describing the journey of a man called Shiva and how he becomes the'Neelkanth', the saviour of all.
Basically the book retakes on the origin of Lord Shiva,how he saved the world and became Mahadev. The writer Amish Tripathi has written it in a very easy to understand language avoiding those big and tacky words to show off one's vocabulary.The book is divided into chapters and each chapter ends in a twist which keeps you on the cringe to read the next chapter. Given its attractive cover,the book has no pictures on the inside,so pick it up if you wanna "read".
It is first in the triology,followed by "The Secret of the Nagas" and "Oath of the Vayuputras".The book opens with Shiva and his tribe "Guna",is visited by Nandi of Meluha,who invites Shiva and his tribe to Meluha.On the first night in Meluha,Shiva and his tribe is given'Somras' by Meluhans. Somras reacts in Shiva and results in a permanent blue glow to Shiva's throat,making him the legendary,'Neelkanth'. According to the Meluhans, Neelkanth is their saviour who will protect them from evil clutches of Chandravanshis and the Nagas. After knowing the legend, Shiva takes on his duties as Neelkanth and tackles the problem head on. Its a must read and I would rate it 4.5/5. GO FOR IT!
