During my school days I loved Tintin more than anything! It was the ultimate reward or motivation for me to do well in the exams. I felt the world created by Georges Remi(Hergé) was just unbelievable and simply magical. The Adventures of Tintin was an amazing series full of mysteries, hope, triumph, fantasies, and almost everything. On top of it, Hergé’s intriguing writing style with a touch of humor(both subtle and innocent) and clear line colorful drawings made the series a smashing hit in the twentieth century. The series is still loved by people of all ages.
Characters
Tintin as we all know is a young and smart Belgian reporter cum adventurer. He is accompanied by his loyal dog Snowy(a fox terrier). Other important characters include Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, and the incompetent detective duo Thomson and Thompson. At the same time, one must not forget Roberto Rastapopoulos and Bianca Castafiore. Honestly, I am feeling so happy even while writing the names of these amazing characters.
The Evergreen Series
Although I love the entire series, but still if you ask me to pick my list of favorites, then I will consider – Tintin and the Broken Ear, The Black Island, Red Rackham’s Treasure, Explorers on the Moon, Tintin and the Picaros, The Castafiore Emerald, and Tintin in Tibet. Even today, I make it a point to read them whenever I get time. In terms of popularity, I feel only Goscinny and Uderzo’s Asterix will come close to some extent.
Conclusion
The Adventures of Tintin has been translated in various languages like Spanish, Japanese, Norwegian, Icelandic, Greek, German, French and many more. I still remember that I got Tintin in Tibet as my birthday gift from parents. It was written in Bengali. I enjoyed reading it and I still love reading it. All I want to say is that the magic of Tintin and his adventures will remain in my memory forever! What about you?
