Althought these songs are numbered, i don’t like them in any particular order, i’m a big fan of Illayaraja and picking a top ten list was almost an impossible task to do. Nevertheless here’s the list, and i tried to be spread my list over 1980’s and 1990’s, 5 from the 1980’s and 5 from the 1990’s.

Top 5 1980’s.

1.) Mandram vantha- Best song from the best tamil music album from the 1980’s.

2.) kodiyile maligal poo- just an amazing song.

3.) nilavaa vaa- Mani Ratnams first, and Illayaraja’s most complete musical movie ever.

4.) poogratru theriyuma- My fav Sivaji and Barathiraaja movie.

5.) thempandi cheymanyile--I had to put this Song, Nayakan is my fav. movie

Top 5 1990’s.

1.) Sundari Kannal oru--Personal opinion Rajani’s best movie and this is the best song from the movie.

2.) Nee Partha- Sadly the movie nor the musical composition by Illayaraja ever got noticed from Hey Ram. One of my fav movies, and i love the piano composition from this movie.

3.) Inji Idupaazhai--Properly Kamal’s best movie of the 1990’s along with Kurithipunal and Mahanadhi. love the entire song and its picturisation.

4.) Ennai thalata varuvala- I like this song for 2 reasons, one for its music and secondly it was a song from one of Vijay’s better movies.

5.) Amma- Mannan, Yesduas was simply at his best in this song. Very positive and moving song.
