A genius is one who shoots at something no one else can see.

And yes A R is Genius. And everybody knows it.

And to get a shot at his 20 best is just not an easy business.

Infact I don’t want to get into it either.

This is just my choice of A R compositions.

Choice is nothing but love you have for that particular thing.

So everybody differs here and I know it.

I have gone for how well A R catches mood, feelings and situation of that song in that movie.

Let me give it in countdown fashion :)


So here is my choice.

10.kesera kesera: -FROM PUKAR

Not only prabhudeva and madhuri rocks here but A R too!

From start of the song to end, it has excellent rhythm, great singing by Shankar M. and kavita.
And to end the song, his signature SCALE CHANGE! Thanks to great chorus too.


9.Taal se Taal Mila: -from Taal

Again mood catching and A R is up there. Song has background of rainy and cloudy and Raindrops we get to hear at the start says it all.
Good singing by Udit and Alka yagnik.


8.E AJNABI : -DIL SE

Really great composition. Great tune, great slow bits at which whole song goes and great singing.

7.O rey chhore: -Lagaan

Absolutely stunning composition. What about EUROPEAN FLAVOUR? :) Out of top draw!

How well he has done to express both”s expressions so successfully.

And also going into European mode and coming out of it is not anybody’s cup of tea, how smoothly he has done it!

Great singing by VASUNDHARA DAS.

6.Pyar ye Jane kaisa: -RANGEELA

It may sound unusual for most of you (because song didn’t get that much fame).

But see the movie, at which point it comes, on screen we see Amir and song narrates whole picture, and tears come down

Watch out for background scoring when sea waves appear on screen before second Para starts.

GREAT singing again by KAVITA and SURESH WADKAR.

5.Ye pukar sunle re: -PUKAR

Again off-track choice may be. But again at point of time it comes in movie is great.

PIANO playing throughout the song is stunning, GREAT CHOROUS BY children.

And watch out how pitch of song goes up and up when songs comes to an end, yes, feelings of “PUKAR” have come 100%!


4.TU HI RE : -BOMBAY

Signature A R. !

Slow and smooth. Romanticism at its best.

Great wordings are given justice.

Sharp VOICE by KAVITA And good HIGH PITCH BUT SMOOTH singing by HARIHARAN.

Great to watch on screen. A complete package!


3.KEHNA HI KYA: -BOMBAY

Splendid! We can see how well he has brought in Urdu flavor into it, and how much composition takes twists one after other while stanzas are playing. Again good chorus, good high pitch singing by CHITRA because its one of the toughest song to sing I feel.

2.Radha kaise na jale : - Lagaan

Again a FIRST-RATE composition.

Great rhythm. Great bits.

He has given completely north Indian flavor to it.

Song is in narration mode and so hard to compose but he has done it!

Classical flavor towards the end is also stunning. (Done by VAISHALI SAMANT.)


1.ROJA JANEMAN: -ROJA

For the simple reason, this was his first attempt.

And this was MASTERPIECE.

Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person.

And this is the reason; he came up with this one.

No need to speak anything more.
