A.R.REHMAN,well the name spells magic and so does his music.Rehman is God’s gift to lovers of music and i think Rahman is one reason why we enjoy music soooo much and for a person like me whose world revolves around music,R.D.BURMAN and REHMAN are my ’’GOD’’.Rehman’s contribution to film music has been immense and he has completely changed the music scene.He is innovative,experimental and has given a new dimension to sound and music.I love his music and have been religiously following it ever since his Roja days and he has not disappointed since then.
It’s difficult to pick Rehman’s ten best songs coz they are all so good but these are a few songs which are close to my heart and which i absolutely love to listen.
1.GURUS OF PEACE(Vande Mataram):Vande Mataram is one of the finest work of Rahman and it has some brilliant tracks but my favourite from the album is ’’Gurus of Peace’’where Rehman is joined by yet another genius the late’’Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’’and the effect can be nothing but extraordinary.I love the lyrics,music and the beautiful use of instrumentation in this song.Great track.
2.ROJA JAANEMAN(Roja):Roja was the first album i heard of Rehman and since then i have been hooked to his music.Roja showcased the talent of the genius called Rehman and the film had some beautiful songs but Roja jaaneman is my personal favourite.This song still haunts me.
3.KEHNA HI KYA(Bombay):God!i love this song sooo much.It is a beautiful composition with amazing lyrics and singing by Chitra.This song has a very distinct Qawalli feel to it,with the dholak and all playing in the back which makes it very likeable.Kehna hi kya is a haunting melody.
4.CHAL CHAIYYA CHAIYYA(Dil se):What a song!Well,when this song came out it was kind of a anthem song and it had to be, what with those deadly beats and amazing singing by Sukhwinder singh.I love the energy which has gone into singing the song and though the song is typically Rehmanesque,there is something different ’bout it and that’s what sets it apart from the rest.
5.TANHA TANHA(Rangeela):When Asha Bhosle and Rehman come together the effect can be nothing but magical and that’s what this song is, sheer magic.Tanha Tanha is undoubtedly one of Rehman’s best compositions, the lyrics ,music and singing everything is just purrrfect.
6.NAHIN SAAMNE(Taal):Another great album and another great track composed by the man.It is a very soft ,slow paced romantic number and the orchestration is simply superb.I love this song and the way it has been sung by Hariharan.One of Rehmans gem.
7.DHEEMI DHEEMI(1947-Earth): 1947-Earth was yet another great album from Rehman and each song was a gem,but dheemi dheemi stands out from the rest for me for it’s brilliant music and it’s poetic lyrics.It’s a very unusual and different composition which makes it a delight to hear.
8.KISMET SE(Pukar):Need i say anything about this wonderful song?This song is so beautifully composed and written and Sonu Nigam and Anuradha Paudwal lift the song to amazing heights with their awesome singing.Kismet is definitely one of Rahman’s best.
9.O’RE CHORI(Lagaan):I am tired of saying this but Lagaan was again a classic from Rehman.Lagaan’s music was so different and refreshing and only Rehman could have done justice to this film with his music.All songs were brilliantly composed and written but i’ld rate O’re chori as the best coz of its novelty and experimentation.O’re chori is a wonderful blend of Western and Indian music,something we hardly get to listen and thats what makes it so special.
10.KANDUKONDAIN KANDUKONDAIN:Well,this is one of my favourite album of Rehman and i cannot pick a single song coz i like all of them.Smiyai,Konjum Mainaakkale,Kannaamoochchi and the title song each is a gem.Surprisingly i don’t understand the lang this album is in nevertheless i love the songs and music which speaks for the genius of the man.Rehman can make anything sound good and moreover music has to be enjoyed irrespective of the language it is in.Great album.

So these are a few of my favourite Rehman’s song,the songs i love to listen.Rehman to me is a genius and he is one reason i love music sooooo much.
