Jatin Lalit - the best. Review on Ten Best Songs of Jatin-Lalit

Hi. Who are the best among contemporary music directors?

A - AR Rehman

B - Anu Malik

C - Nadeem Sharavan

D - Shankar-Ehsan -Loy

E - Jatin-Lalit.

Quite a debatable question for music lovers. If a site hosts this question I feel the results would be interesting. Because AR Rehman is more of a media star. Certainly I would go for option E.otherwise I would not be writing under the column'Top 10 of Jatin Lalit'. There is no doubt in my mind that no one composes a love song better than Jatin Lalit.

They are not good enough when it comes to masala numbers, item numbers or Govinda type of songs.but when it comes to love, mush, soft romance Jatin Lalit are the best. Started way back in'89 with Yaara Dildaara .with the eternal Bin tere Sanam .which has been reincarnated by DJ Suketu. their career took off with hits like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Khilaadi, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa .all in a row!.

Then there was a lull.only before a storm.as DDLJ and then their best effort KHAMOSHI.stormed the nation. The fact that Khamoshi- the movie was a huge flop reiterates the fact that the music was so good that its still alive. Infact there are only 2 soundtracks which have been so successful inspite of the movies biting the dust. 1-khamoshi, 2- Dil se Yes, talking about Jatin Lalit.then came Yes Boss, Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya, Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.all in a row again.

The count of hit movies has already crossed 10. However after KKHH.their career took a halt.with not many top ofthe chart hits.there were Mohabatein, K3G, Chalte Chalte.and now Hum Tum.but they are not exactly in the same league. Lets hope they recreate their magic of the'90s yet again.and give music lovers something to hum.about.

10 DDLJ - Najaane Mere Dil Ko Kya

This song is the heartbeat of DDLJ. Although Tujhe Dekha .was far more popular than Najaane mere.this songhas subtle romance.and the lyrics are amazing. And Jatin Lalit.have always associated themselves with lyricists of mention like. the Late Anand Bakshi here.

9 KHILAADI - Wada Raha Sanam

Akshay Kumar is black jeans and whie shirt with Ayesha Jhulka on the mountain tops. The picturisation is vividly clear. The music of Khiladi was exceptional considering it was Jatin Lalit's 3rd movie. It gave Abhijeet his first hit.

8 KHAMOSHI - Jaana Suno

Difficult to pick 1 song from Khamoshi.there were so many of them.but Jaana Suno.was classy in itself. The song difficult.in itself was given full justice by the master singer UDIT who seems to be reinventing himself time and again. Its dissapointing that Sanjay leela Bansaali is not working with Jatin-Lalit of late after Kahmoshi.Hope they team up together.

7 JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDAR -Pehla Nasha

This song would come on the first position in most lists. Considered as the best romantic song ever.the song has a history in itself. Director Mansoor Khan rejected the song initially.Jatin and Lalit.sat the entire night. recording the song on piano.and they sung it themselves. They took the tape to Mansoor the next day and played it again. And as they say.the rest is history.

6 PYAR TO HOUNA HI THA - Jab Kisiki Taraf

The song has excellent lyrics associated to it.which raises the bar. Elicliting how u realise that u r in love in simple but meaningful terms Kumar Sanu has done full justice to it.inspite of his nasal voice.

5 JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDAR - Rooth Ke Humse

The first sad song in the list. The song sung by Jatin himself.was picturised on a weepy Amir Khan, still brings a hollow feeling along with it.

4 KABHI HAAN KABHI NAA - Eh kaash ke hum

Again a romantic number which is everlasting.

3 YES BOSS - Main Koi aisa

Slightly different in its genre.not entirely a romantic number.but yes Abhijeet and Shahrukh Khan combination make it work. And Jatin Lalit's music arrangements certainly a high point.

2 SUNGHURSH -Mujhe Raat Din

This Sonu Nigam number is clearly the best romantic song off late. Sadly the movie didnt really do well.and the picturisation.ohh so poor on Aman Verma.The lyrics are a standpoint yet again coming from Sameer.which is a surprise.

1 YAARA DILDAARA- BIN TERE SANAM

Everyone puts in real hard effort in their first creation. And its hear to see. The music.with the rain.splashing.in the background.or was it the sea.i dont know. still to see the picturisation.the song was definitely way ahead of his times.This proves.the song today is the song played all over the discs in Bombay. Udit and Kavita.were amazing in that song.

The cassette also had a western version of the same number.must say 10 times better than the remix done by DJ Suketu.but atleast he has made the song a household name.for all those who were unaware.
