(Updated Nov 26, 2004 02:25 AM)

Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit, the dynamic duo who has made music lovers all over India fall in love with love!

It seems to be a very romantic season at this moment, I have no idea why. Just when I think of someone special or hear romantic songs, I thought to myself, 'Who can create such melodious, and memorable romantic songs? No other than Jatin - Lalit.'

Back in the 90s the J-L team has brought new wonders to music after the disastrous disco music during the 80s. J-L has continued on with great numbers that have included great actors/actresses with amazing picturization. Most of the songs had their own unique sense of style whether it was from a sappy romantic movie, a college competition movie, or movies involving crime and terrorism.

I am honoured to write a review on one of the greatest music directors.

Ten Best Songs of Jatin - Lalit: Entitled to my Opinion

(not in order)

  1. Bin Tere Sanam - Yaara Dildara(1991)

Starred: Aashif Sheikh, Ruchika Panday and Amjad Khan

Ah, who could ever forget this song? I was about 5 years old. I remember when I first heard this song from my sister's cassette in the car. My foot started tapping as I listened to more of Udit Narayan's fresh voice and Kavita Krishnamurty's melodious tune. The drumming was exceptional, though was from a drum machine, the beats were original. It was a very English, pop music style apart from old traditional music using the sitar, harmonium and tabla. But I liked it. Sadly the movie has flopped badly and I have never gotten a chance to see the actual video. If you would like to hear this song go to:

  1. Pehla Nasha - Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar(1992)

Starred: Aamir Khan, Ayesha Jhulka, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and many other great actors:)

5 words: THE BEST SONG EVER MADE! None other than Udit Narayan has sang this song along with one of my favourite, Sadhna Sargam. The piano piece, oh could it get any more romantic than this? Truly original and inspiring. The slow beats would make you want to grab yourloved one and dance into each other arms. This song has made many people believe and fall in love. Am I right? The picturization is oh so sweet, and cute. It shows people in love in slow motion, whether they realize it or not. The song was, is and always will be the best song. ever. Hear it:

  1. Deewana Dil Deewana - Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa(1992)

Starred: Shah Rukh Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Deepak Tajori and others.

J-L was beginning to be on a roll now, creating film albums after albums. This is one of the nicest male duo songs in the 90s. Two guys falling in love with one girl. Each had their own little story about falling in love with her. Sung by Udit Narayan and Amit Kumar. So far, the songs I have listed had some English music touch to it. In this song there was a mix. The main song and interlude was a mix of drumming, calypso music, saxophone and flutes, while the verse had the traditional tabla and tune to it. Jatin - Lalit were very wise about choosing the orchestration on each part of the song. I liked their innovation about that. Listen:

  1. Na Jaane Mere Dil Ko Kya. - Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge(1995)

Starred: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and a whole clan of craziness!

Oh, the peak of SRK and Kajol's jodi. Before the song came onto the screen, the scene when SRK says that he will not come to Kajol's wedding happens to be the most memorable scene ever(to the SRK fans anyways). As SRK slowly walks away, you can hear in the background filled with the chorus'aahing' sadly along with the orchestra. Lata Mangeshkar's voice was filled with emotions as she says'Na Jaane Mere, Dil Ko Kya, Ho Gaya. Abhi To Yaheen. Ta Abhi. Ko Gaya.' Immediately strung into acoustic guitar and Udit brings his strong voice singing the same line along with the congos/drums and orchestra. The cutest part of the song is when Lata says'Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko To Pyar Saajana.' along with the famous indian type of guitar and tabla. The tune of this song is beautiful!

  1. Bahon Ke Darmiyaan - Khamoshi: The Musical(1996)

Starred: Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, Nana Patekar and other talented ones.

Wah, kya awaaz hai Hari-Haran ka aur Alka Yagnik! Hari-Haran was simply mesmerizing. Especially when he adds his own little voice technique to it. Soft, and simple music, with mostly soft tablas, flute and a bit of sitar. Ending the song with saxophone and bass guitar was amazing also. This is the kind of song that makes you doze off to a peaceful world. I love it. Can't describe anything else. Could J-L get any better than this? Listen to it:

  1. Yeh Dil Sunraha Hai. - Khamoshi: The Musical(1996)

Kavita Krishnamurty's enchanting solo. Haunting, beautiful and sad at the same time. This is the song where Manisha tries to sing out to her deaf parents. Amazing choice of orchestration with strong voices heard from the chorus. This song is very inspiring as heard from the https://lyrics.

  1. Deewana Main Chala - Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya(1998)

Starred: Salman Khan, Kajol, Arbaaz Khan and others.

A chirpy, happy song great to listen while on the road. Amazing guitar, drumming combo along with the harmonica. Udit Narayan again shines his voice as Salman Khan is walking on the cross path to search for his love. It is on this list, since the music is very R.D. Burman like, where J-L are a big fan of, and it brings back memories of those lost 70s music in which we miss. The drumming fill is one of my favourite part of this song.
