QAWWALIS.something which is surely BUT sadly dying in films and otherwise, not many people know what a QAWWALI is.it was a kind of music and song, a mix of sufiana and classical, where there was a whole mix of people singing the song, the instruments used were mainly dholak, harmonium, ghungroo.and the chorus clap, was sung mostly for occasions or competition.QAWWALI was something big during the mughal era.and it was to their credit that it was introduced here and QAWWALIS made a big way into hindi films, especially in the late 50s and late 60s.I love old hindi film music.so I always use to listen to these old songs on radio or tv to update my knowledge and thats how I got to know about these Qawwalis in hindi films.and they were just so enjoyable and also they conveyed some deep meaning, if you are well versed in hindi-urdu.I love listening to QAWWALIS.and in a way I am happy that the new music directors are not making or composing them because i'ld not want them to insult or waste this form of music by making anything in the form of QAWWALI.
There have been some very good qawwalis in hindi films.and I have picked ten of my most favourite ones.
*TERE MEHFIL MAIN KISMAT AAZMA KAR

This is the best qawwali for me.from the film MOUGHLE-AZAM, sung by SHAMSHAD BEGUM, LATA MANGESHKAR.its just a brilliantly done song by Naushad, this one is a complete treat from start to end.
*NA TO CARAVAN KI TALAASH HAI
NA TO HUMSAFAR KI TALASH HAI.*
This one is another gem from the film BARSAAT KI RAAT.it is a example of a perfect QAWALLI, great singing by ASHA BHOSLE-MANNA DEY and the chorus.it opens so well, the music in the beginning of the song is just splendid and it ends with the lines'YEH ISHQ ISHQ HAI'ISHQ ISHQ'.
*HAI AGAR DUSHMAN DUSHMAN.
ZAMANA GHAM NAHI GHUM NAHI.
KOI AAYA KOI.HUM KISSI SE KUM NAHI*
I am sure everyone must have listened to this song.from HKSKN, i thought the song was very well used in the film too.RISHI KAPOOR just brought about the right expressions in the song.This song was also a feather on the cap for RDB.WHO people thought could give only western songs.MOHD RAFI-ASHA BHOSLE.just lifted this song to some other level.
*CHANDI KA BADAN.
SONE KI NAZAR.US PAR YE NAZAKAT KYA KAHIYE*
This qawwali from TAJ MAHAL, sung by MANNA DEY, MOHD-RAFI, ASHA BHOSLE.is another gem of a song, so well composed, versed and sung.you have to listen to it to enjoy its beauty.
*SHARMAAN KE U, AZI PARDA NASHI.
AANCHAL KO SAWAARA KARTE HAI.*
This qawwalli is from the film CHAUDHVIN KA CHAAN.it was used in the film on the occasion of some marriage, i remember this film for the songs.and this qawwali is one of them.again one of my very favourite.
*AAJ KYON HUMSE PARDA HAI.
PARDA HAI *
This song is from SADHANA.picturised on VIJAYANTIMALA, i happened to see this film once on SONY, and thats where I heard this QAWWALI.sung by RAFI and composed by N.DUTTA.this song gives the very essence of the qawwali.
*HUME TO LOOT LIYA MIL KE HUSN WALON NE.
KALE KALE BAALON NE, GORE GORE GALLON NE.*
This one is a great qawwali and one of the most popular and liked, it was remixed also once.i think its because of the https://lyrics.I love the whole feel of the song and the way it has been song.its from the film AL HILAL.
*PARDA HAI PARDA.PARDE KE PEECHE
PARDA NASHIN HAI.*
This is a super popular song from AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY. and also an eternal favourite of the people.its been well composed by LAXMIKANT PYARELAL and brilliantly sung by MOHD RAFI, very enjoyable song.
*PAL DO PAL KA SAATH HAMARA.
PAL DO PAL KE YAARANE HAI.*
Another of those brilliantly composed songs from RDB, lyrics were very meaningful and touching too.and also the way RAFI-ASHA has sung it, just blows your mind away.from the film THE BURNING TRAIN.
*PIYA HAZI ALI.
PIYA HAZI ALI, PIYA HAZI ALI HO.*
The only new song\qawwali I could have selected.from the film FIZA, it had a very sufiana flavour to it, also the song had too much feel and it was brilliantly sung by a hoard of singers.RAHMAN just composed a perfect qawwali.the only man from the present genre who could have composed it, real treat.
THIS COMPLETES MY LIST OF TEN BEST QAWWALIS.of all times.You'll have to dig deep into the music of yesteryears to get a flavour and the real idea of the QAWWALIS coz they made the best that ever could be.there are lotsa other qawwalis in hindi films, which were great.but these are the ones I love.hope you will all enjoy reading about them.
