Songs are an unnecessary part of a Bollywood film. They usually do not take the story forward, are costly to shoot. Moreover it is difficult to write songs, put them to music and then choreograph their picturisation.Only one in a few hundred songs are able to achieve this co-ordination.And when it does the end-product is worth all the sweat and blood that is expended for that number's creation.I take this godsent opportunity to talk about those few comprehensive, complete songs. Here goes:
.Ding Dong Baby Sing A Song/Aaj Ki Shaam Ka Pyar Ke Naam Ka(Hero):Five young men and a petite Meenakshi Sheshadri in moutainous, idyllic surroundings. As the camera moves from person to person and to the beautiful hills the song flows continuously like a dream. The way everything falls into place is a treat for the eyes and the other senses.A gem of a number.
.Ek Haseena Thi, Ek Deewana Tha(Karz):Another Subhash Ghai movie another immortal guitar riff.Never has Bollywood seen such a grand mounting for a climax song. And such stupendous, magnificent execution.
.Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai(Guide):Waheeda Rahman dances all over exquisite architectural edifices in a bid to replicate the great joy of a journey called life. The camera worked like a musical instrument creating eternal melody.
.Yeh Kali Kali Aankhen(Baazigar):Wonderful costumes, excellent choreography and most of all an atmosphere of physical and psychological tension.Rips your nerves apart all the time.
.Mach Gaya Shor Sari Nagri Re(Khuddar):A festive occasion, a lot of pandemonium and an exuberant mob.At the top of the mob is Amitabh Bachchan going absolutely berserk.Amidst the chaos there is great fellow feeling.
.Tirchi Topiwale(Tridev):There is Sonam, there is Naseer, there are dancers. And there seems to be total confusion all around. However, out of this noise emerges a beautiful, orderly song.
.O Haseena Zulfonwali(Teesri Manzil):My favorite because of the choreographed chaos. The whole song is intended to disturb, to disconcert. And it does so with consummate ease.
.Khud Ko Kya Samajhti Hai(Khiladi):Its my school Don Bosco, Matunga and a former senior, Akshay Kumar. Its a song that manages chaos with great efficiency. The result is quite pleasant.
.Maye Se Mino Se Na Saki Se(Khudgarz):Govinda and Neelam dance rather well to create a very groovy song.To dwell on chaos, this song has just two people and look how complete it seems with snow-capped peaks et al.
.Bach Ke Rehna Re Baba(Pukar):Its a huge party, there are a lot of musicians. There are plenty of singers.Yet, the song lets you know what it is trying to do.Awesome.
