Doctors say “Laughter is the best medicine”, I say music is equally good if you are a true music lover. The power of music can be judged from the fact that when Tansen used to sing in Akbar’s Darbaar, Oil lamps used to light automatically, without any source of light. I love music from the bottom of my heart and listen to music when I am sad, when I am happy, when I want to relax and even when I go to sleep. One of the main pillars behind making the music a successful event in this era has been “Singers”. My review is a tribute to all those singers of Hindi film Industry who have made millions of people fall in love with music. It’s a very difficult task to choose just 10 singers from all the legends who have been entertaining us for more than 60 years, still I am trying to give an honest effort to this task. Here are my top 10 singers of Hindi film industry till date.

1. Mohammad Rafi(10/10):

Hindi film music is not complete without this man; Music pundits rate his voice quality as the best voice quality among all the singers till date. Apart from having a perfect voice he had the diversity a perfect singer requires. Rafi sahab has sung every possible kind of song, be it a song full of energy like “Chahe koi mujhe jungle kahe ….” or a pure slow romantic like “Dil jo na keh saka …”. He worked with every music director of that era, dominated the industry for almost 3 decades. The most difficult aspect of Rafi sahab comes in front of me, whenever someone asks me to choose my Favorite Rafi song. Here I am putting 2 of his songs that are very close to me,

Aaja panchhi akela hai ….(Nau do gyarah)

Tujhe jeevan ki dor se .(Asli Naqli)

2. Kishor Kumar(9.99/10):

The discussion between greatness of Rafi sahab and Kishor da is endless; the perception differs from person to person. Kishor da had the same talent as that of Rafi sahab, even I think Kishor da was more diverse as compared to Rafi sahab, but the inimitable voice of Rafi Sahab is the prime factor which takes my vote in favor of putting him at number 1 spot. Kishor da is also from “Golden era” and he also dominated the music industry for more than 3 decades. He has been a true genius in all sense; today he will be having the maximum number of fans across the world. 2 of my favorites of Kishor da:

Woh sham kuch ajeeb thee, yeh sham bhi ajeeb hai ….(Khamoshi)

Aake seedhe lagi dil pe aise katariya ….(Half ticket)

3. Manna dey(9.9/10):

The king of classical music whom many music directors have preferred over great Mohammad Rafi and other great singers for singing a classical song. Manna Dey sahab has a special quality thru which he used to sings most difficult of the songs with such an ease that listening to the songs becomes more enjoyable. Being adept at classical music he has not only sung classical songs rather sung many masti bhare songs like “Aao twist Karen…” and “Dil ka haal sune dilwala…”. His one of the most famous song “Ek chatur naar.” from Padosan is an all time favorite of mine and will never be forgotten.

Poochho na kaise maine rain bitayee .(Teri surat meri aankhein)

Laaga chunri mein daag ….(Dil hi to hai)

Aayo kahan se ghanshyam …(Buddha mil gaya)

4. Hemant Kumar(9.85/10):

A singer, a music director and an ace, Hemant da had his own class in his singing and his meticulous voice made all the difference when he sang “Jara najron se keh do jee .” or “Na tum hamein jaano .”. A true legend and a true musician; he delivered some melodies to us which will always be there close to our heart.

Yeh nayan dare dare …(Kohra)

Jaane woh kaise log the jinke .(Pyaasa)

5. Mukesh(9.82/10):

Another legend from the “Golden era” of music; dominated the industry for more than 2 decades and sung many unforgettable songs. Whenever I listen to Mukesh, I get the feeling that “Ek aisa aadmi gana ga raha hai jiske mann mein koi chor nahin hai”(A normal person is singing who has his heart clean and clear). Mukesh’s voice is his best feature, his voice had “Sahajataa”(Simplicity) which adds such an impact to the song that it gets more close to the heart.

Chandan sa badan …(Saraswati Chandra)

Kaheen door jab din dhal jaye …(Anand)

6. S. P. Balasubramanyam(9.8/10):

Every great singer(read: singer) has a unique feature in himself which makes him different from others, something special and suitable for some particular types of songs. S.P.B. has his own style of singing which makes him special. The style can be compared when you listen to two singers singing the same song like “Jiye to jiye kaise .“. In one song I found S.P.B. dominating over Kishor da, the song is “Yun hi gaate raho. “ from movie “Saagar”. This singing king has not only sung Hindi songs rather have dominated the south India with his inimitable voice for years.

Aake teri baahon mein …(Vansh)

Sach mere yaar hai, bas wohi pyar hai …(Saagar)

7. Sonu Nigam(9.75/10):

Many people consider him as the rebirth of all time greatest Mohammad Rafi, Sonu has the voice, the talent and the diversity. At present he is at number 1 among all the singers and can sing any song with pretty ease and melody.
