Romance never dies !
Jul 26, 2006 02:16 PM 10009 Views

Romance and love has been an inevitable part of hindi movies. but the movies that brought a lump in my throat and striked a chord are :-

NOTE - MY SELECTION IS STRICTLY MY CHOICEAND FROM THE FILMS AFTER 1970....

  1. QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK

I m willing to die a thousand times to feel that innocent love of raj and rashmi for each other. a refreshing chemistry, a straight forward narrative and some soulful songs make this film memorable. and the climax is the most touching. performances by juhi and aamir stood out in this exceptionally passionate film.

  2. SAATHIYA

saathiya had some of the most identifiable characters ever. great music defined the characters’ love for each other, not to mention anil mehta’s beauteous photography spreading colors of romance everywhere. rani mukerji and vivek oberoi were picture perfect as suhani and aaditya. a simple tale of an intricate love-hate relationship.

  3. DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE

"come....fall in love" is what DDLJ teaches us to perfection. those sweet characters of raj and simran [ played by SRK and kajol immaculately ] make us wanting to love someone. helpfully, the script isnt turned to a pot-boiler one and remains on the base throughout. a great film.

  4. PARINEETA

just watch saif and vidya balan and their true love and you will be reminisced of your first love. their amazing chemistry and a beautifully woven screenplay add to the sheen. and those haunting songs will never fail to tug at your heartstrings and depict the charming romance of the protagonists. a truly realistic romantic love story set in the old age charmed ambience of the 60s.

  5. MAINE PYAR KIYA

This was a great surprise package from suraj badjatya. salman khan and bhagyashree were very much in love and perfect in perfect compatibility. though the script was loop-holed quite a bit, the romantic depth of the movie seldom fainted for even a moment. salman was at his energetic best in this tale of sweet love living forever.

  6. HUM TUM

hum tum was one other love story with a lot of complexities. the fact that two people take as long as 9 years to realise their love for each other was filmed quite logically. saif’s care for rani in the first half and their blooming romance in the second was very fresh and lovable. no masala contents, no skin show, hum tum is a brave and successful attempt at modern relationships.

  7. KABHI HAAN KABHI NAA

this one is an unusual flick in this list. KHKN shows some different faces of love - requited love, love between a couple, and in the climax love being selfless. suniel’s character is perfectly romantic at its own place. great songs and great moments complete this sublime romance.

  8. KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI

KKHH explored a trend of candyfloss college romance and took it to enormous altitudes. this film was completely dominated by tina’s latent emotions, anjali’s inconsolable pain, Rahul’s charm and a heart wrenching narration by karan johar. the film’s only drawback is its out and out "playing to the audience" screenplay. still, KKHH moves on its own quite smoothly.

  9. KAL HO NA HO

again, the different aspects of love in this tearjerker saga were shown very realistically. Saif loving preity, preity loving SRK and SRK torn between preity and her life. you can just gasp when he says "i dont love you" and looks at her with such great love as if there is no tomorrow [ literally ! ] a perfect treat for all SRK fans.

  10. DARR

Passion was its peak with SRK wooing juhi in "TU MERE SAAMNE". darr was simply owerpowered by SRK. his obsession with juhi has to be seen to be believed. portraying the darker aspect of passionate love, yash ji excelled in bringing out thre character of rahul to life. his performance and haunting music salvaged this otherwised mediocre movie.

SPECIAL MENTION :-

YES BOSS

A simple, sweet, touching middle class love story with some really endearing moments and enticing performances from shah rukh and juhi chawla.

BY NOW, U MUST B WELL AWARE THAT I AM A HUGE SRK FAN AND SIMPLY LOVE HIS EXPRESSIVE EYES AND ROMANTIC PERSONA. SO, PARDON ME FOR BEING A BIT BIASED.

HOPE U LIKED MY SELECTION. COMMENTS AND RATINGS EAGERLY AWAITED

TILL NEXT TIME
