I won't be surprised if many of those who have been writing reviews here don't even know some of the below names. For them, there's nothing beyond Rehman or at the max, RDB. Well, I too don't know much beyond the below ones;)

By the way, Rehman can not be compared with any of these. The genre and the era are totally different. So I'm not considering him in this list. Can he there in the top 10 or not - don't know! Below are the 10 I think were the best.

  1. Naushad and SD Burman(It's difficult to decide who's the best. One was the master of pure Indian music while the other, the most sweet to listen. And both were experts to get what they want from the singers.)

  2. Shankar-Jaikishen(No need to say anything about them. Turely versatile.)

  3. OP Nayyar(Nayyar-sa Nahi Dekha)

  4. Chitragupta(For his extremely sweet tunes)

  5. Ravi(One who used Rafisaab and Asha to their best)

  6. Roshan("Mann re" gives him this place. )

  7. Madan Mohan(the king of Solos)

  8. Salil Choudhury

  9. Vasant Desai(For his classical compositions)

  10. RD Burman(The most popular and thus overhyped. He was good but certainly not the best or great.)

And still I'm missing Jaidev and C. Ramchandra here.
