Its a review which I have been thinking of writing from quite sometimes but its just that this was supposed to be the day when I will write this review.I like all different kinds of things:drama, comedy, kids movies(action isnt neccessarily my thing).I guess the bottom line is I appreciate good acting and the exploration and discussion of tough subject matter.
So my dear friends, here are some movies which have touched me, provoked me to think, or simply provided me with good, wholesome fun! Although there are MANY more films which I have also loved and enjoyed, but here is a list of those which have been MOST CLOSE to my heart
*Sholay(1975)
*Directed by Ramesh Sippy
"Sholay" is arguably the most complete entertainer ever to emerge
from Hindi filmdom. I have lost count of the number of times I watched it and
got mesmerized. I think it has everything that a good movie should have . “Isme
Action hai, Drama hai, Comedy hai, Tragedy hai”
Technically brilliant, great dialogues,
taut script, visually spectacular with amazing performances by the entire
cast
*Deewar(1975)
Directed by Yash chopra
*I must have seen this movie close to 50 times, still it remains on my list of most watchable
films. Deewar is the story of two brothers; One a cop, the other on the
wrong side of the law. Both brought up in poverty by their hard-working widowed
Mother. The movie is every bit formulaic as we know it
now, but it was a trendsetter back then. But even when you watch it now, you can
see the earnestness behind it, the seething anger well enacted by amitabh A strong screenplay and very well crafted by ace director yash chopra .Deewar is remembered for its exchange of strong dialogues between amitabh bachchan and shashi kapoor The most famous one being under the
bridge.'mera paas Ma hai and ofcourse the prelude to this dialogue.
*Amar, Akbar, Anthony(1977)
*Directed by Manmohan Desai
Undoubtedly one of the zaniest Bollywood movies, this film may be the
greatest of all the stories to follow the once-beloved “lost and found”
formula. With three major stars(Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and
Rishi Kapoor) and three heroines(Parveen Babi, Shabana
Azmi and Neetu Singh), "Amar, Akbar, Anthony" was a film about the three sons of an ex-convict who are abandoned
when their father is forced to flee his old mob boss and their mother
goes blind. One son(Amar) is adopted by a Hindu policeman and becomes
a policeman himself. Another(Akbar) is raised by a Muslim tailor and
becomes a singer. The third(Anthony) is raised by a Catholic priest
and becomes a rebellious scofflaw. In the end, the boys are reunited
and join forces in fighting, singing and dancing; they find their
mother, and take revenge on the evil mob boss—and Mom miraculously
regains her sight. Throughout it all, Amitabh Bachchan delivers the
goods—tears, guffaws, funny accents, goofy costumes—as Anthony.
*Dil chahta hai(2001)
Directed by Farhan akhtar
*It defines new age Indian Cinema. Sleek, smart,
stylish, humorous and yet filled with different sensibilities.
*Munnabhai MBBS
*Directed by Rajkumar hirani
One of the best comedies of recent times! Munnabhai
MBBS is replete with laughter and emotions without being soppy. Rajkumar
Hirani(director) has beautifully entwined the fun-filled scenes with teary
moments. Performance of a career by Sanjay Dutt.
Umrao Jaan(1981)
Directed by Muzaffar Ali
Set at the time of the
Indian Uprising(or Mutiny, as the British called it) of 1857, this
poetic and atmospheric film tells the story of a young girl—Umrao Jaan,
portrayed by Rekha—who is kidnapped by a
neighbor and sold to a brothel to be trained as a courtesan. Skilled in
poetry, song and dance, she falls for the local prince(Farooque Shaikh)
but winds up running away with a bandit(Raj Babbar). But when
the police kill him and the British attack Lucknow to put down the
mutiny, she is forced to flee the city and winds up—can you guess?—back
in her old village, where she meets her old mother and younger brother
and sings a heartbreaking song.
Lamhe(1991)
Directed by Yash chopra
Lamhe is one of Yash Chopra’s finest films. I loved everything about LAMHE the songs, the story, everything was just perfect Sridevi was brilliant in this movie and anil kapoor was also good.
Muqaddar ka sikandar(1978)
*Directed by Prakash mehra
This is yet another favorite movie of mine. Here was amitabh bachchan, smouldering in an intense portrayal of a man caught on the cross roads of love and friendship.Amitabh plays sikandar, a man who seems to be fate's favorite child, but fortune stops smiling on him when it comes to love.I simply loved this movie .It was really poignant and heart-rendingly sad.I have watched it many times and yet the ending brings me to tears everytime.
Taare zameen par(2007)
Directed by Aamir khan
This movie is so full of life and innocence that
it makes you laugh, cry, reminisce and re-look at life and children,
quite effortlessly. Films are where reality meets fantasy and fact
meets fiction and no other film in a long while has walked these two
worlds at the same time, often blurring the lines associated with the
distinctively different genres while also tripling up as effective
social commentary. No Indian film has ever captured childhood like this
before.Outstanding effort.
Jo jeeta wohi sikandar(1992)
Directed by Mansoor khan
*Amazingly inspirational movie was ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’… more than
the last race, this movie was about the spirit to win. the passion to
prove a point to the world
