As the title suggests, my review is gonna be seriously controversial. Simply because of the fact that there are NO old movies on this list because I have not seen any of them. First of all, lets see what goes into the making of a nice, popcorn-muncher of a movie:

1. The movie should have a good storyline.

  1. Preferably, the movie should be an out-and-out comedy or should be funny atleast in parts.

  2. It should be backed by good performances and sharp direction.

  3. The movie should fullfill its purpose (ie, a horror movie should scare and a tragic movie should bring tears).

  4. Last but not the least, the movie should have that X-Factor to really draw-in the audiences.

HERE COMES MY LIST:

PS- Due to comments and ratings received, I would like to say that these 10 movies are the ones which I enjoyed! This is NOT for those looking for all-time classics. This is for those who want slick, funny, watchable and overall satisfying movies.

The list of movies here are largely comedies, as I think that comedies are the best way to unwind and making a comedy is a far tougher task than making a movie like Twister or James Bond's 007 thrillers.

10. Along Came Polly (2004)

This movie stars the evergreen Ben Stiller and my personal best Jenniffer Anniston. Ben Stiller plays Reuben Feffer, an insurance agent, who likes to plan his entire life. He marries Lisa, eho cheats on him on their honeymoon itself. A furious Reuben dumps and then meets Polly (Jennifer Anniston), whom he used to know from school. Polly is the exact opposite of Reuben: she is barely civilised, likes dirty dancing, eats with her hands etc. So what happens when these two opposites fall in love?

9. Max Keeble's Big Move (2001)

Alex D. Linz plays Max Keeble, a kid who is so NOT cool in seventh grade. He is picked upon and ragged by everyone and he resents this. So when he realizes he's moving to another town, he plots against his foes so that by the time his acts are known, he will be away and gone forever. Therefore, he makes everyone's life hell at school but the plan backfires when his dad tells him that they aren't moving. Max now has to suffer the consequences of his actions. A rib-tickling comedy to be watched by kids and adults alike.

8. Wedding Crashers (2005)

David Dobkin has directed this comedy which stars Owen Wilson (John Beckwith) and Vince Vaughn (Jeremy Gray). John and Jeremy's only work is to crash weddings (whether they are invited or no) and have a one-night-stand with the bridesmaids before dumping them. This ritual goes on and on until John feels that he is really in love with Claire Cleary (played by Rachel McAdams). As it turns out, even Jeremy finds true "love" and the crashers live happily ever after........

7. Jaws 3 (1983)

This evergreen classic has chilled each and every one of us to the bone. A well-thought out movie with a script which was excellent for its time. Powerhouse performances and great special effects meant that I was really scared when I saw this movie for the first time in 1997 as a seven year old. Do catch this movie to learn about the monsters of the sea.

6. Feaky Friday (2003)

Mark Waters has directed this comical drama for the entire family. This movie deals with the ultimate love-hate realtionship of them all: teenage daughter and working mother. The daughter thinks that her mother is too uncompromising and does not understand her needs while the mother feels that her daughter's life is too carefree. So what better way to solve than exchange places? Yes, that's right. The mother goes into her daughter's body and vice versa due to a mystic curse-cum-gift. What ensues is a hilarious comedy. I liked the song at the end which goes something like this:

"Round and Round Here We Go Again, The Same Old Story, The Same Old End." Good performances by everyone is the icing on the cake.

5. Harold And Kumar Go to White Castle (2004)

This is an adventure-cum-comedy movie directed by Danny Leiner. Two twenty something guy foreigners living in America (one Indian and the other Korean) are great friends and one day decide to go to White Castle, a far-off resturant which supposedly serves the best burgers. How the two of them get caught, arrested, ride a cheetah, lose their car and hang glide is exeptionally funny and well put. A good teenage movie.

4. Tomb Raider : The Cradle Of Life(2003)

Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) delights the audiences and makes males like me drool in anticipation as she packs a punch and kicks some serious butt. This is an action-cum-thriller which works only because of Angelina Jolie. While it was slammed by the critics, I liked and enjoyed it enough.

3. Ace Ventura : Pet Detective(1994)

Jim Carrey, the uncrowned king of comedy, plays a pet detective in the movie. The movie also stars Courtney Cox of Friends fame and the movie is a lugh riot. Carrey plays Ace Ventura, the best pet detective (the only pet detective, actually) and puts in a stellar performance. Definitely one of the most memorable funny flicks ever. get ready to laugh so hard that your stomach rumbles because Tom Shadyac has directed an awesome movie which will tickle your funny bone!

2. Spiderman 2 (2004)

Tobey Maguire plays the fabled role of Peter Parker to perfection as he battles Doc-Ock and tries to save lives while wooing girlfriend Mary jane (played by Kursten Durnst). Sam Raimi directs this fantasy-cum-thriller movie. Peter Parker is beset with problems that he can share with no one. Playing good guy with infinite responsibility is finally getting to him.......

1. YOU TELL ME

My favourite ploy. I did it with 5 best books and 5 best reviewers also. Which movie gets the crown? You tell me in the comments section.
