2006-The best year comes to an end
Dec 31, 2006 02:35 PM 4970 Views

2006 has undoubtedly been the best year for Bollwyood, both in terms of BO collections and more importantly the quality and the varied genre of movies which was encompassed. So here is my top ten for the year, not necessarily in any order:

Rang De Basanti:A generation awakens, the name says it all.RDB symbolized everything that the youth represent today.More importantly it showed the impact the youth could have on the day to day affairs of the country.Truly, a masterpiece.

Taxi 9211:This movie was one of the few gems which got lost in the crowd.Except for Mumbai this movie didn't really perform very well. But, the brilliance lies in this fact that it could capture the essence of the city like none other movie before. With wonderful performances and a tight script this movie will be remembered as a classic which never got its due.

Zinda:A rip-off from the Korean flick old boy, Zinda is Bollywood's first venture into a psychological drama.Though it is copied entirely, the wonderful performances by the lead protagonists makes this a good watch.

Krrish:Move over superman, Krrish is here.India's first world class superhero took the country by storm and the man behind the mask, Hrithik Roshan once again flew up the popularity charts. Not a perfect script, but this movie has opened up new avenues in the normally very conservative film industry.

Lage Raho Munnabhai:Do I need to say anything about this?Gandhigiri Zindabad!!!

Omkara:Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of Othello is the perfect example of an adapted screenplay(and not 'inspired').With a mammoth and more importantly able star cast, this movie is definitely the toast of critics in 2006

Don:SRK's attempt at being a Don might not have gone too well with everyone, but this is one of the few slick gangster movies which we have ever had.Despite lacking the soul of the original one, the slickness and the twists make this an engaging watch.

Dhoom 2:Mr.Roshan was back as the elusive Mr.A and the audiences started singing, 'Crazy Kiya Re'.Forget the ridiculous plot, appreciate the action seqeunces, Ash and Bipasha's Oomph factor and Hrithik's wonderful portrayal as Mr.A;who according to me is India's answer to James Bond(despite being on the wrong side of the law).

Khosla Ka Ghosla:Another gem which kind of got lost in the crowd.A movie along the similar lines of Lage Raho, this movie shows that no matter what your budget or which stars you have(or the lack of it), the important thing is the script and that is where the movie scores big time.

Gangster:Okay, this movie might not be the best one out there, but it is a lot better than some other movies. With a decent script, wonderful music and tremendous performances this movie was again testimony to the 'Mahesh Bhatt' school of film-making which more or less succeeds everytime.

This is my top 10.Waiting for your comments.
