Sing along....

A good duet is one in which both the singers are perfectly in tune with each other, merging their individualities totally for the song. Bollywood has its own share of duets but I have picked out a few not just because of the renditions and the compositions but also because these songs enriched the movie in which they were placed considerably.

1. Abhi na jaao chhod kar ki dil abhi bhara nahin(Hum Dono)

Do not depart so soon, for my heart is not content with such a short meeting. Give me some more moments of our together ness.

This ultra-romantic song is simply beautiful. She wants to leave and he gently persuades her to stay with him a little longer. Shikwe and shikayat are the spice of any love story.

2. Ye kahan aa gaye hum yunhi saath chalet chalte(Silsila)

Where have we reached, my love, just walking together hand in hand. When did love happen?

I don?t know if this can be called a duet, since one of the voices is not actually singing but this is the most exquisite piece of music I have heard. Amitabh?s rich, baritone voice complements Lata?s magical voice. I love the way he wonders?Tum hoti to aisa hota? If you had been here, it would have been thus.

3. Rimjhim ke tarane leke aayi barsaat(Kaala Bazaar)

As I listen to the music of the raindrops, why does my heart remember you so much? Maybe because when we first met, it was raining like this?

The song is great but the picturization is absolutely priceless. A young, suave Dev Anand and a beautiful delicate Waheeda Rehman, sharing an umbrella and walking in the pouring rain, not daring to look at each other with this song in the background. Sensitivity rules.

4. Likha hai teri aankhon mein kiska afsaana(Teen Deviyan)

As I look into your eyes, I can read someone?s story written there. Who is the one you have given your heart to? Is it me?

A peppy, fun filled song. A maverick, wearing-his-heart-on-his-sleeve Dev Anand being quizzed about his love by a confused, very-much-in-love Nanda. The man cannot make up his mind when it comes to loving a woman. So he turns back and asks her to decipher the mysteries of his fickle nature.

5.Wo hain zara khafa khafa ki nain yun churaye hain(Shagird)

I can see that the one I love refuses to meet my eye. I wonder what I have done to make him so? What shall I do to make him smile at me again?

A slow, romantic number. Close your eyes and listen to it. It will take you to a bygone era when love was as delicate as a lone rose which blooms in a valley. When love was expressed in a quaint, charming manner.

6. Pyar mein kabhi kabhi aisa ho jaata hai(Chalte Chalte)

The path of true love is never easy. Especially when the lovers disagree on something. Love is a many splendoured emotion and sometimes a minor disagreement gets blown up between the two who love.

Listen to this song just when you two have had a fight and you?ll be smiling by the time it ends. You will realize that your ego is best forgotten when you are in love. Anyway, fights make loving more interesting.

7. Ek din tum bahut bade banoge(Ankhiyon ke jharokhon se)

One day when you will become great and successful, will you forget me then? One day when you will be shining like a star, will you forget your old love?

I loved this movie and this song touches a chord inside my heart everytime I happen to listen to it. Ranjeeta puts forth her anxieties and the fears to the one she loves(Sachin). The fears that haunt every girl?s heart when she loves somebody.

8. Tere mere Milan ki ye raina, naya koi gul khilayegi(Abhimaan)

This is our night, my dearest. The time has come to come close together and seal our bond of love forever. Do you know this too? Is that the reason why your eyes are shining like stars?

Very emotional, very touching. And of course, the real life couple, Amitabh and Jaya made the picturization of this song absolutely unforgettable. Watch the tall Amitabh holding the petite Jaya in his arms protectively as they sing this song in tears at the climax of this movie.

9. Tere mere hothon pe meethe meethe geet mitwa(Chandni)

As we walk together, songs of love come on our lips. As we walk together, our love follows our footsteps.

Ethereal and delicate, like a soft white cloud floating in a blue sky. This song has been sung expertly by Lata and Babla Mehta and composed by Shiv-Hari. If there is a rhythm of love, then this is it.

10. Tu mere saamne(Darr)

How did this miracle happen? The one I love is finally standing in front of me, looking at me. Should I just go on looking at her beautiful face or should I love her?

An obsessive lover dreams of the moment when the object of his obsession is standing in front of him. This song hits home because of the rich lyrics(toot gayi toot ke main chur ho gayi), superb rendition by both singers(Udit and Lata) and of course, the picturization. This song will chill you as the madness of an insane lover spills through in a gush.
