Someone(Sajjad?) once said that'Norjahan aur Shamshad Begum ki awaaj mike ki mohataaj nahi thi.studio ke bahar public main bhi record karo tobhi wahi quality milegi.' i.e. Noorjahan & Shamshad Begum never needed a mike.even if you recorded their voice out side the studio in a public place the quality of recording would be the same as with mike in a studio!
You can't just help but nod-along after hearing some of their songs. This song in this list is my tribute to the Godess that blessed the screen in many Hindi movies.

A very challenging subject where a young man from a well do to family falls for a lady with a kid from her first relationship! Patita was a bold movie. Dev Anand looks like a billion dollar & I do not think any other actor save for Vinod Khanna from Qurbani has looked(including Dev in other movies) so much handsome. Usha Kiran-Kher looks sweet.This song also features in my 20 Best Love Songs review.

It is a highly romantic situation when a couple in love reciprocate their love & also at the same time tease each other claiming more purity of love than thier mate! I think Dev Anand has got the most number of romantic songs & also the duets, check this one out, it could be very well be termed as the most popular & the most sweet duet of them all. A permanent fixture in the all time great songs. The urge from a lover to stay for a few more moments & the reply back that if I don't go'now', I won't be able to forever!

Again, Dev Anand features along side beautiful Suchitra Sen. Asha & Rafi's heavenly voice with several ups & downs in the songs specially the connecting pieces between the stanzas are a treat for the ear! The fact that the lover will need to forget his love for the sake of her parents & will live rest of the life as their son makes this romantic song very disturbing at the end of the movie. The movie is Bombai Ka Baboo.

Neeraj my favorite lyricist has to feature in this review. The following song is a personal favorite. From Sharmilee, this song presents the state of the mind of the lovers perfecetly. The first'Ikraar' of love results in a sponteneous lsounding lyrics from the young lady.

Again Dev Anand! but this time the godess of Indian movies: MADHUBALA. The movie is Kala Paani & the song where Madhubala asks him to pardon her for her silly mistake & he keeps on teasing her. Rafi & Kishore has changed their style from time to time for Dev Anand. Remember Kishore's'Haay Haay Haay ye najaree karade sharabi jise chahe jise chaahe main to bhul gaya raahe' from Paying Guest? Similarly Rafi molds his voice at'Dekhi sab ki yaari mera dil jaaaaloooonaaaaa'.
Madhubala looks grrrrrrrr(-upto infinity!-)aaaat!

Duet doesn't have to be with male female combo, right? How about this competition kawwali? Lata Mangeshkar & Shamshad Begum are splendid in this one. The resurrected movie I saw on this weekend: Mughal-E-Azam! One of the GREATEST classic of all times by K Asif.

This one is again a personal favorite the song that becomes young with every new generation. Asha & Rafi filmed on Kajal Kiran & Aamir Khan's uncle!:)

Sweet song & it is a favorite from my childhood. Rafi's voice although a little on the downside in the late 70s is perfect in this song with Bholi Ho tum kya jaano abbhi muzhko pehechano, sapana tumhara main hun maano yaan na maano.

I would like to end the review with the song I think is the best Kawwali ever produced in the Hindi cinema. From Barsat ki Ek Raat several Diggaj artists sing in this kawaali along side Lata, Rafi & Manna.
