Reading had been my passion in the earlier stages of my life.  Even if I am not much into reading these days, I used to read lots of works of these authors made me adore them while going through those books.

10) Alexandre Dumas(1802-1870)

He has written some of the most adventurous and action-filled novels including'The Count Of Montecristo' and'The Three Musketeers'.  He has given birth to some of the most powerful and living characters, that lives in our minds forever.  His stories didn't have much historical accuracy, but they managed to prove the points he wanted to make.  He has opened the door to the thrilling experience for all the readers.

9) O.Henry(1862-1910)

Henry has managed to bring some unexpected endings into his stories which also manages to take a twist in the middle.  His stories has made fun of lots of things, and he has also managed to make the much seen twists of his stories at the right time.  If some one has managed to write usual stories in an unusual manner, which can attract the readers, it is simply this man.

8) Jerome K Jerome(1859-1927)

Jerome has been one of the most humerous writers I have ever encountered.  'Three Men in a Boat', a humorous account of a trip on the Thames from Kingston to Oxford was followed by'Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow' and lots of others.  He has been able to make the usual incidents sound really funny.  The ability to find the small bit of humour from any daily incident makes his works different.

7) J.K.Rowling(1965-2005+)

From the sensation that the Harry Potter books have managed to create, I don't think that she needs an introduction.  One of the best selling books ever - the magic of Harry Potter had got into lots of people all around the world and there is no wonder that the Harry Potter movies also ran wild.  The opening of a magical world filled with different emotions, action and lots more, was nothing short of an entirely different experience.

6) Bram Stocker(1847-1918)

The creator of Dracula, may have opened the door to all the vampires to enter the movies and books.  The story of the vampire lord may be one of the most thrilling and adventurous stories of all times.  Based on the famous Hungarian legends about the Prince Vlad Tepes, the story was one of the most amazing creations ever.  There may be nothing that symbolises a vampire better than the master horror, Dracula, the creation of this man, Bram Stocker - who keeps living in the human hearts even after such a long time.

5) Anne Rice(1941-2005+)

The author of'The Interview with the vampire' and'The Vampire Lestat' just managed to look at the vampires from an entirely different angle.  These were the works which manages to let us spare a certain amount of love for the immortal, blood thirsty vampires whom she has proved to be the most desperate creatures on Earth.  Thus she proves that it is always good to look from different sides at the same object.  Her stories were really astonishing and the way in which each character as well as the incidents are presented to the reader makes each story unique and enjoyable.

4) H.G.Wells(1866-1946)

I could remember reading his two books, 'Time Machine' and'The Invisible Man', the maximum number of times.  He has managed to write the best science fictions which got a certain amount of reality touch in it.  The presence of the science factor may be one thing that makes his stories stay different.  His books seemed to predict the possible future of the human kind as well as the differences that the science can make in the world.  As the science keeps on developing, some of his works may have'the future' of our planet in it.  We can know the width of his imaginations from his works - they never fails to impress.

3) William Shakespeare(1564-1616)

Shakespeare may be one of the greatest playwrights in history and there may not be any of his works that is not worth a mention.  He has excelled in any kind of topic he has written on, whether comedy or tragedy.  His works like'Rome And Juliet', 'Tempest', 'King Lear' - all were unmatchable.  In each of his work, we could see the touch of a master which makes them perfect.  Most of them have managed to show the different states of human minds - love, passion, anger, betrayal etc.  The fact that his works are still considered among the best, proves that his works are nothing, but classics which cannot be made less important by the passage of years or even centuries.

2) William Wordsworth(1770-1850)

I don't remember any other poet describing the beauty of nature better than William Wordsworth who came to be called'the nature poet' for his immensive love for nature which he may have devleoped from the long journeys he made.  I had lots of his poems to learn during the school days, 'Daffodils' being one of them which I still remember by-heart.  In this poem he has made some ordinary flowers sound more valuable and important!  He could manage to write his poems in a simple and delicate manner so that the people can understand them without any difficulty.

From'the Daffodils'

'They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.'

1) Alfred Tennyson(1809-1892)

Being the one on whom my name is inspired from, Alfred Tennyson was always among my all-times favourites.  Even if'In Memorium' is the most famous one of his works, I loved the poem'The Eagle' which I remember studying in the lower classes.  He may be the greatest poet of his century and one of the best so far.  Regarded as the chief representative of the Victorian age in poetry, each and every poem of Tennyson had a certain amount of variety which we can clearly findout by comparing them.  They seems to depict his variable interests in different fields.

From'the Eagle'

'He clasps the crag with crooked hands;

Close to the sun in lonely lands,

Ring’d with the azure world, he stands.'
