Satellite Television – A boon or bane?
Nov 14, 2007 03:44 PM 53189 Views

Every

coin has two sides and if one side is enlarged or shrunk, the other matches the

change to the nearest micron. Boon and bane are 2 sides of the technology coin.

At the dawn of the 21st century, Marshall McLuhan's projected global

village(McLuhan, 1967) is increasingly a reality made possible by the

communication revolution - satellite and cable television, multinational media

conglomerates such as those of Rupert Murdoch and TIME-Warner communications,

and, increasingly, the Internet.

A

satellite TV system consists of a dish that captures the TV signal broadcast

from a satellite, and a receiver that amplifies the signal and sends it to a

television. Less than 10 years ago, satellite TV systems consisted of a huge

satellite dish, about the size of a flying saucer, and nowadays, its more

powerful than the past & its too much simplified and easier to get

connected with it. Now satellite television service give us the chance to view

and enjoy, all kinds of channel as like as sports, news, cartoon and all others

entertaining channels.

We,

the human being of modern age, like to simplify our life by taking the helps of

modern science. In Bangladesh, we can view more than 150 satellite channels of various

countries. There are various department of entertainment in satellite. We can

change any channel by clicking buttons of television remote. We can learn a

good thing of other countries and takes good ideas from that’s television

programs. We can know about the tradition and culture of other countries.

But

as mentioned in the introductory Paragraph, every coin has two sides as well as

every good thing have some negative essence. In the backside of satellite

television, there are also some negative effects. Our culture is differing from

the others. In western countries which are good in the eyes of the society,

that is bad in our social progression. Our new generation is very much addicted

in satellite television programs. They like to see the violence and its affect

their tender mind. Also some satellite television channels carry sex,

violence and drugs which also make affect social values.

We

live in an ever engulfing technology environment. Breakthrough technologies

today will become way of life in a few months and passed in a few years. It only

depends upon us as to how we put these advances to our use. We may use the same

for betterment of our lives and society or misuse them to create trouble for

ourselves and the society. Whether technology works out as a boon or as a bane

depends completely on how we put it to use, technology has no personality or

intentions.
