Are you progressive ?. Review on Technology, Boon or Bane

Technology is defined as “The discipline dealing with the art or science of applying scientific knowledge to practical problems” ! How true! Technology for me means making life more simple and more meaningful. In an era where life’s so fast, so running and so competing – technology seems to be like a life line for most of us. I see technology in everything – like simple fan, computer appliances, internet, kitchen appliances , cell phones, cars, manufacturing machines  and where not ?

In fact I fail to imagine how one can lead his life without these things. I call technology as a complete “BOON” with full conviction in it !Ok there may be some drawbacks associated with it, but we

cant blame technology as a whole for this or we cant call technology  a curse or a bane ! No way ! It’s always

user’s

choice to use a technology ! I can justify this belief with some simple

examples. Like we want fine quality rust free iron rods and there fore we’ve

big pollution causing machines and factories for manufacturing these high

quality iron rods. Well we won’t be progressive if we don’t have these

factories and machines. More over we always have another technology to cure the side

effects. Hence we need it !

It’s always a **user’s

choice to make technology as an addiction**. Tv and internet are addictive as

par some people. But it’s our choice. We can extract the best from it to our

advantage or we may surrender in front of it. Tv and net are famous for it’s

vulgarity and obscenity – well I’ll say an average tv as minimum 100 channels

and I’m not sure for number of websites our world wide web has! Tv and net both

offer enough variety to choose from.

There’re certain

myths aligned with technology. **Myth number

1** - working on a pc or laptops is causing postural  defects, eye defects etc.. well there’s

technology to prevent you from this ! Firstly prolonged working causes these

defects. Incase your job is sedentary all you need is take care of yourself-

take little breaks in between, wash your eyes with cold water, and do yoga and

other stretching exercises in morning. And in extreme cases there’s technology

to prevent you from these defects – our medical science. Another myth is that technology is confined to computerization of

offices and pollution causing machines only. Nope ! technology is not confined to

these two issues only ! it’s range is from a simple pair of scissor and shaving

brush to  ”Delhi metro”, or our whole infrastructure,

from simple HB pencil to high tech aircraft. The range of technology cant be

covered !( I know I may be citing very silly examples to through light but to

remove the myth but I’ll have to do this way.)

Thanks to our medical science to protect us from so many

life-taking diseases. Thanks to bio-technology to give us green revolution,

white revolution etc. Thanks to our new era  engineers to give us computerization in all

the field and all the sectors of an economy ! Its advantages are so many that it's drawbacks are over shadowed.

At macro level a county with more technology is more

developed and more advanced.   I’ll call a person as an unprogressive person if he

calls technology as a bane. A rational and a progressive person will always say

that technology is definitely a boon and a matter of right choice!
