Too much is fattening

“Tea”, I mumble as I emerge groggily from the covers every cold winter morning.

To some, getting out of bed comes easily. A leap, a hop, a skip and jump – and
they are out and about. They rise and shine with an energy that defies the early morning fog. Lucky buggers!

All this seems to add insult to the injury of getting up - especially to the slowcoaches of this world. These are the tortoises that drag themselves out of sleep and start fumbling around for their tea with the very first tinkle of the Alarm clock. For them, there is no right side of the bed.
I am of this breed.

So, there you sit grouchily till some enticing aroma beckons you to emerge from the comfortable, mind-numbing cocoon of sleep. You clutch that warm mug for support and depend on it not just to dwell on yesterday but also to slowly come to terms with today. With each sip, you seem to be getting a wee bit brighter and bolder. By the time that cup of tea is ready to be put down, a pleasant feeling of delicious warmth welcomes you in its folds.

Having tried both the Brooke Bond Red Label and Taj Mahal, the two main contestants in the Indian market, I was still distinctly dissatisfied. I scouted around for quite some time till I found Tata Tea – one sip and I was hooked. But then, soon, I watched a commercial on TV, which tempted me to switch my loyalty to this brand.

This was the Tata Gold Tea commercial. The Tag line for the commercial was “na kahoge to pachtaoge” – if you say no, you’ll regret it. The guy who refuses the tea is literally seduced by the aroma of it. I had a gut feeling this product would be good – and so it was.

As you open the packet, you can see small bits of green leaves. It is a blend of ordinary tea with the long leaf variety. Tata Gold Tea has a taste that finely balances freshness, aroma and taste. When ready, the brew has a thick and warm golden brown color that is a visual delight. It is strong and rich in taste without being bitter.

What I really love about it is the way it is packaged – in an appealing lustrous green, thick polypack that probably helps to contain the aroma. One important thing while buying it is to always go for small packets and keep the contents in an airtight container.

Some quotes –

I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car.
--Emo Phillips.

Sleep is a symptom of caffeine deprivation.

Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.

Sleeping is no mean art: for its sake one must stay awake all day.
--Friedrich Nietzsche

Nice guys finish last, but we get to sleep in.
--Evan Davis

And if tonight my soul may find her peace
in sleep, and sink in good oblivion,
and in the morning wake like a new-opened flower
then I have been dipped again in God, and new-created.
--D.H. Lawrence
