I am celebrating one year of harassment at the hands of Tata Indicom, so please join me in my celebrations!
My travails started last year when I applied for a broadband connection from them (Plz see details below). First of all they never provided the connection within the stipulated time. Then to top it all they encashed my cheque!

21 Jan 2008 - Applied for connection - The executive mentioned that it will take maximum 2 weeks for the connection since feasibility is confirmed. Gave a cheque for Rs. 4496/- as advance payment for 4 months connection. Also he confirmed that the cheque will not be encashed till the connection is provided to the customer. The same is mentioned on the application form.
4 Feb 2008 - Phoned the call centre for an update on the connection. Call centre executive confirmed that I would be getting the connection by next day. I clearly told them that since I was not at all happy by their service I would cancel the connection if not provided by 5th Feb 2008 as promised.
5 Feb 2008 - No response from tata indicom. Phoned the call centre and asked them to cancel the connection. The call centre executive confirmed to me that my cheque would not be encashed as per policy.
8 Feb 2008 - Cheque encashed.
17 Feb 2008 - Phoned the call centre and asked them to refund the amount after detailing the problem. They said I would get the refund within 7 days.
26 Feb 2008 - Phoned the call centre for update on the refund. The response was it will be done within 2 days.
28 Feb 2008 - Phoned the call centre for update on the refund. Got the same response - it will be done within 2 days.
01 Mar 2008 - Phoned the call centre for update on the refund. Got the response - it will be done within 2-3 days.
03 Mar 2008 - Phoned the call centre for update on the refund. Got the same response - it will be done within 2-3 days.
07 Mar 2008 - Phoned the call centre for update on the refund. The executive confirmed my worst fears - he said that for my application somehow the cheque details are not present. Hence he cannot take my request for a refund. He asked me to go to VSNL office and lodge a complaint.
08 Mar 2008 - Went to the VSNL office and lodged a complaint. The response was - It will take 22-25 business days for the refund since it is handled from the mumbai office.
I later phoned the VSNL office to inquire about the status of the complaint a few times but no result.
In between I tried calling Ashutosh to get some help in this matter.
At first he cleverly tried to evade the issue saying that this is not his problem, but later promised action within two days. He never bothered to reply or pick up my calls after that.
It has been a year of running behind them but I don’t know what to do now. I am really frustrated by the thought that the TATA group has stooped to such low levels that they need to cheat money from people in this manner.
Mr. Ratan Tata talks about ethical business practises and what not. He should perhaps first take a look at his own companies at how they are fleecing the people.
