I read here various reviews about Tata Nano. Few people compare it to a normal hatchback and expects a lot from it. Some others think that this is a waste of money(and waste of talent for Tata engineers) - I am not sure how many of these reviewers in reality have either driven one or own any Nano.

I would sum-up my review in simple terms - the car has been made with a purpose and our reviews should also be limited within those expectations.

If you are going to expect comfort like Sedan - then you should buy a Sedan. If you expect everything in a compact car, then you should opt for a hatchback. If you expect it to cover rough terrains with 5-7 people seated in it - you should opt for a SUV. There are various models and types in the market which are meant for different purposes and one should buy a car as per their needs.

Problem with us is - we would buy the most cheapest car, with highest promised mileage and then expect it to give us all the features of a Sedan, SUV, MUV and so on.

In simple terms - if you are buying peanuts for Rs. 10, they will taste like peanuts only and not like cashew nuts which sell at Rs. 700-800 per KG in the market. Some of us will not even buy them, we may taste them for free while strolling with a friend at a beach! But we will not restrain ourselves from commenting.

Anyway, me and my husband are driving a Nano for last 4 years and I must say, we are a set of happy customers. We had brought the car with a purpose and it has truly met our expectations.

We knew more or less what to expect in car that cost us mere 2L. Today in Indian market, where a bike easily cost on an average 50-75K, I am happy to spend 2L, to buy a Nano, which can take 4 people to places with AC/Music etc. I would in fact compare it to a bike - no hassles of wearing a helmet, no worries of sun/rain, can take 4-5 people, no skidding or injuries like how bike skids, can carry more groceries than on bike, can also be parked at a bike parking lot:)

Of course it cannot match high speed bikes nor its as fuel efficient as them, but you would not take your superbike to do grocery shopping  and then even a superbike isn't any fuel efficient!

Again, the point I am highlighting is buy it if you need it. I use it daily for my office travel which is about 7kms from my home, on weekends for Grocery shopping, visiting near by friends. picking kids etc.

In short about my car - it's a 2012 model with AC(no power-steering/Music system, Power windows, central locking etc) These features are launched in newer models but I do not need them anyway. I have been using it for 4 years now - covered about 35 kms and hoping to do 50k, the car comes with 4yrs/60k KMS warranty - I must say, its the best in this category. I am getting about 18-20kmpl on an average.

Downsides: again not really downside but its not a safe car in case of head-on collision etc. Rear engine makes some noise after 20-25k driving, no power steering makes it little hard to steer wheels but I would say not in motion.

Otherwise, I would say its the best vehicle in it's class.
