There are two things that strike you when you first visit this hospital..(1) The overwhelming mass of people (2) The extraordinary waiting period..But nothing beats the kind of quality treatment the doctors mete out here. The doctors really seem to care for you and can be surprisingly patient towards all the queries that are raised. I have had to go to this hospital twice for different relatives with different ailments and have had the opportunity to meet various Doctors (Dr. Praful Desai, Dr. Advani, Dr. CS Pramesh, and the other assistant doctors). Absolutely wonderful medical professionals who know their jobs...

Certain things where I feel scope of improvement lies is in the usage of their CT Scan, and PET Scan facilities. The waiting period for these tests are awfully long and the doctors themselves recommend to undertake these tests from external medical test agencies.

These are something that may be useful for the first timers:

1) The registration for new patients is done at the first floor .. Dr. Homi Bhabha Annex (New Bldg) of the Tata Memorial Centre.

2) The patient or their relative is supposed to collect a form from Counter no 3. which is in the center of the hall. The person giving the form asks for some history on the basis of which the patient intends to register (past test reports etc., ). Details of whether you are a private patient (all the services provided by the hospital will be chargeable; or a special need patient (availing concessional or free services) has to be clearly mentioned. Also the preferred doctor if any, should be mentioned.

3) After filling in the requisite details, the form is to be returned back to the same person, from whom the form was collected.

4) A number will be alloted to the patient, which will be called from someone seated at the Patient Care Services kiosks.

5) The details entered in the form will be entered in the computer, and a new file will be created, with the concerned doctor/s and his team that will attend to you.

6) Private Patients will be alloted a smart card, in which the patient can deposit cash for direct payment of services in whichever department he/she goes. Extremely useful service, which negates the fact of the patient or the relatives running to billing for payments prior to receiving services.

7) The Patient Service Care personnel will then tell you the relevant doctor and the room number where you need to go for further consultations. Thats where the crowds and the long waits will overwhelm you for the first time.

All I can further add is ALL THE VERY BEST AND GOD BLESS.
