My father was diagnosed with PROSTATE CANCER back in 2010 at Bhubaneswar, SUM Hospital. The treatment was going well and the PSA level was within control. But in Jan 2015, it started to increase. The doctors there told to go for CHEMO(DOCETAXEL) which cost around 18, 000 per 100 mg in a cycle. We went to TATA. There they advised to continue with Hormone therapy and pescribed a medicine ABIRETARON whoxe market cost was 27, 000/- for 120 tabs and TATA cost was 23, 000 for 20 tabs. The PSA started to decrease for a period of 6 months but it again increased but they persisted. Then finally in April 2017, they went for CHEMO(DOCETAXEL). After 12 cycles, the PSA is still high. Now they are going for Radiation therapy.
Merits:
Treatment, Consultation, Medicine, Lab Investigation cost is very very low.
Junior doctors examine the patients, but when there is difficulty, they and senior doctors have a meeting where a panel discussed about such patients.
Demerits:
SUM hospital, Bhubaneswar doctors pescribed CHEMO in Nov 2015 but TATA delayed it by around 18 months.
They are going for a TRIAL and ERROR method of treatment.
Note: For taking the chemo, we bought them from TATA and administered them at SUM hospital under the previous doctor.
In SUM hospitals(Not so big), THE DOCTOR KNOWS THE PATIENT AND INQUIRES ABOUT HIS HEALTH.
In TATA, THE DOCTOR KNOWS THE DISEASE BUT IS LEAST CONCERNED ABOUT THE PATIENT.
