Hello Friends,


After a very long time I am back with a review of one of the most unreliable ISP in India - The Tata Indicom Broadband.


I am using their services almost 1 and half years and this period was a total nightmare. Firstly, they took 2 months to install the connection after I personally visited the place and filled the application.


The connection to become live took another 15 days. Finally, after a lot of turmoil these people set the Internet and I was able to see Yahoo.com on my home PC. Was satisfied that at least the hard work paid off and hoped that there shall be no problem from hereon. (My biggest incorrect assumption)


If you are using Tata's interenet you can expect the downtimeof atlesat 5-6 days in a month, that too if you are lucky otherwise it might go beyond 6 days in a stretch. These downtimes of more than 6 -9 days have happened to me most of the times (Every month). This means you have to call their incompetent Customer services who will give you a common verbiage " Our technical team is working on your problem and it shall be rectified in next 24 hours - Bang" " Kindly note down you complaint no.12345 and we have forwarded your request to the concerned department and the problem shall be resolved in next 24/48 hours.


I have raised almost 78 complaints during these 1.5 years and most surprisingly these people close complaints without resolving the problem or even contacting the customer. The fact is that TRAI has laid down some rules that the customer complaints should be resolved within 24/48 hours of the time when the complaint is received or at least the customer is made aware of the genuine network problem.  Since the staff is incompetent they keep closing the complaints at will and show a positive report to TRAI (at the cost of the Customer) This means they keep hiding their mistakes and keep making promises of better services.


And finally the biggest problem that I am facing with these people is the up gradation. It happened that I tried to upgrade my connection from the current 128 KBPS Plan (Unlimited usage) to 256Kbps (Unlimited usage). I visited their service centre which is in Kalyani nagar - Pune and purchased a voucher for Rs.6500 which was for 6 months of unlimited usage for 256 kbps.


The account got recharged immediately and I hoped that the connection shall boost substantially. But nothing happened. I called their customer care desk several times and they sent some engineers to check the problem. These engineers agreed that the speed is low and they have some problem with the proxy settings. (I don’t know what that means). I have their report saying that the speed is low and it needs technical troubleshooting from their side. During the whole period of 6 months I got a speed of just 128-146 Kbps. Not to forget the compulsory 5-6 days of downtime each month.


It’s almost 8 months that the problem is still pending with these people and they are saying they cannot reimburse me the amount lost since reimbursement is not under their policies. Again, they cannot extend the validity which is also not possible under their well known policies!!! In short they want me to forget the amount lost which would be around Rs.3000 or 3-4 months of internet connection validity @128kbps by simply saying that this cannot be done. SO CONVENIENT!!!


You might say that after so much problem why I am still with these people? The answer is that no ISP was providing me the internet connection in the area where I stay- at least 2 years back. Now we have options for going with wireless internet and I guess BSNL'S EVDO is good in Pune. I hope to wrap up things with Tata and go for BSNL instead. I understand that BSNL have no adequate customer service but that gets equalized with Tata's incompetent CC Desk. May God help me with BSNL as well. I am trying BSNL since Reliance is unreliable – prima facie and Airtel is way too pricey.


I hope this long review was helpful for those who were planning to plunge in Tata services. My request to those would be to stay away from these people since dissatisfaction is a must.
