I have never written a review in my life ....

Why?, you might ask. Simply put,

1) I never considered anything worth spending time writing a review

2) I never wanted to endorse or Veto a product categorically and then regret it since someone else's purchase decision could be influenced by my short-sightedness. So here iam, writing a long review of my Tata INdica V2 PETROL bought in Dec 2004. Known it long enough. I have previously owned and driven the Volkswagen Passat and Jeeta in the USA for 8 years (5 speed) .Tata is a brand that has been flogged much more than any other brand probably in the entire world. Both literally and figuratively. I include myself in that list .

Never did I know that this little car from them would take every pile of dirt hurled at it in its stride and come up with flashes of brilliance .

In the last 5-6 years that I have owned this car I have had no major issues. I am certainly irked by a few minor issues related the silencer and so on, after 3 years of purchasing it. But engine performance has been flawless and much above my expectations

I have used it left, right and center beating it like a hollow drum and it has never let me down. A few hours back today, I drove from Kodaikanal to Madurai, 120 Km. When I left Kodai my fuel meter was much ;less than half. I had planned to fill gas on the way but unfortunately the station was closed. I decided to take a risk travelling the Ghat section of Kodai (where the next station is 60 km away). When I crossed the 50 Km and looked at my meter , it looked as though the meter had moved just by an angle of 2 degrees. So I decided to stretch the car and travel without filling petrol. Amazingly I reached Madurai with 2 litres left before reserve.

All in All a mileage of 16 kms without A/c. I do agree that I deliberately drove on the same gear , very rarely clutching/de-clutching. Still, the car is awesome. Now coming to the argument between Petrol and Diesel. For me the formula for a perfect car is (in decreasing priority) is Performance (Power Vs Torque) + Maintenance + Mileage + Ride Quality.

Based on my experience with Indical Petrol, I will never ever opt for a diesel car since I believe , in the long run , petrol is just unbeatable as far as maintenance is concerned. I am planning to go in for a Petrol TatA safari as my next car and hope to have the same experience.

To sum it all up, TATA is up there will all top brands like the Toyota and Honda. This car can give Toyota and Honda a run for their money. It is damn VFM! The problem for TATA is not quality , it is quality control. If they solve that puzzle, nothing to stop them. I bought the Indica for about 3.95 lakhs and have spent a total of about 12000 Rs for Maintenance (including regular servicing) in the last 6 yrs. How is that ?

Tata is known everywhere for its Diesel engines, but Petrol is the dark horse !
