Do not ever buy a TATA BP Solar Heater. Like many others, I have bought on the loyalty of the Tata name, but it has been the worst disaster experienced since I have moved into my new house. In fact it has been a nightmare every night if I slept and a sleepless night if I didn't. I'll tell you why:
Within 6 months of usage, there was a loud explosion at 3 a.m. We were all jolted from our sleep, and went to the terrace to find steaming hot water spewing out from the roof-top, and dangerously spraying the surroundings, including the neighbours territory with the water. We risked our lives to climb up and shut down the systems, and with great difficulty, convinced the service centre to send a person the next day, pleading that it was an emergency. Obviously the pressure relief valves had also failed.
I managed to get a new tank replaced on warranty. Please remember that during the down time of repairs, we DO NOT GET HOT WATER FOR BATHING AND NO PRESSURE IN THE LINES. Many times after that, pipes would start leaking, and components would be failing, and Tata BP Solar would take pride in sending service engineers charging Rs. 300 per visit, only to tell me that their product had failed, and further charged me for expensive repairs.
One year later, again there was a loud explosion, with the same effect, at around 3:30 a.m. The pressure relief valve had blown off again, and landed on a neighbours car, denting the same. What I understood after a great deal of difficulty was that there was a failure in the electric thermostat, and since the switch was on, the water over-heated, and combined with the pressure of the pressure pump caused an explosion.
I put a combination of 2 Italian pressure valves, spending Rs 9000 + service charges. Four months later, water was again leaking from the system. After calling the service engineers, I learned that the tank was leaking again, and needed replacement. The cost? Hold your breath - RS. 60000/- FOR THE TANK! At this stage, I realized that with the plumbers, electricians technicians and spare parts purchased.
I had spent more in two years of using TATA BP SOLAR, than I could have saved BY USING FREE SOLAR ENERGY FOR A LIFETIME. I have currently changed the 2 year old system for another brand, and I have sold the Tata system as SCRAP! THIS PRODUCT IS TERRIBLE AND THE SERVICE IS WORSE.
