TVS Jupiter Long Term Review

Jul 12, 2015|   0 Comments TVS Jupiter is one such scooter which chucks out decent mileage in city and highway. Way back in 2013 December TVS launched its new scooter JUPITER - "Zyaada ka faayda". They mean it, JUPITER and why Jupiter? It is suppose to be the biggest planet in our solar system and so is the mileage and storage space of the scooter. Since Jupiter also has many moon surrounding the planet, TVS has made it clear by providing additional features to the scooter. While scooter market was rising to the peak TVS made the right decision of launching Jupiter. No sooner it became a huge hit and number sold made the difference. Today there are many happy owners of TVS Jupiter, which gives them fairly good mileage, good pickup, handy switches, neatly finished exterior trim and curves. TVS has sold over 5+ lakh units of Jupiter now which says how good the scooter actually is compared to the scooters in its segment.

The Jupiter is a mix of almost all the scooters you have seen till date. Activa, Maestro, Aviator, etc. However, the final finishing and bulbous side panels give the desired look that the market needs and that’s what TVS intended to do. The styling in short is a mixed bag, although most people prefer market leader like look but others will appreciate the Jupiter for the overall sensible appeal it carries sure-footedly. To make the now flagship model more alluring to men, TVS has stacked the Jupiter with features like pass lights which is first in the segment, 12-inch alloys finished in dark, telescopic front forks, gas-charged back suspension, large leg space in section and LED tail light. Additionally the new offering an outside fuel filler top at back, under-seat stockpiling which can fit a full face head protector, portable charger, tubeless tires and viscous paper air filter. The Leg room is quite large compared to Activa, Access, Ray-Z, etc. One can easily fit in a gas cylinder without any trouble. The floor mat has a knurl shape in it which provides better grip to keep stuff. Fibre & metal body work has provided the right shape for the scooter with curves & bends. Fuel tank lid position is a great product design work which is really comfortable for someone who doesn’t want to get off the scooter at fuel station. Decent decals aren’t bad at all. TVS has provided Econometer which communicates with the user about the power usage, which will help the rider to keep an eye on revving the scooter beyond a point. First in the segment is the much talked pass light which is really handy. And it is ergonomically designed to get a grip in the left thumb. The angle of rotation of thumb starts at the dip-dim switch and it ends exactly at the level of horn switch. This study of man machine usability is designed really well. Not much before ergonomics had a place in scooter class vehicle. Now with ergonomics becoming a important part of everybody’s life much stress has been induced into the design. Below seat hook has 01 degree horizontal motion helping the user to keep things which might need that minimum space. Front hook which has another 01 degree but longitudinal motion, helps in adding space. It can be pushed back when not in use. Ease of use has been utilized here. The exhaust note and design is even and anyone would love it. Gives out a sine wave kind of note which is quite silent compared to 125cc machines. The design of the exhaust makes it fit completely inside the body. The Ride: Since our main intention was to check the overall performance of the scooter after 10 months of extensive use, we chose to ride it for one full day. Multiple terrains were covered in the ride time and different experience was felt.

Started off with a highway which was smooth and no trouble with pickup. It hardly took less than 8 seconds to do 0-60. Riding on windy part of the day helped in knowing the Jupiter's capability to stabilize and balance. Slowly vibration started felt beyond 65+ kmph. After covering patch of highway it was time to hit the city roads which actually tests the mileage & dynamics of the Jupiter. The suspension was working perfectly, the very movement was felt. Comparing with Activa, which does not have telescopic front shock absorbers the Jupiter's telescopic suspension upfront felt more comfortable. The ride was more plush even than the Honda Aviator which is featured with front Telescopic suspensions. In the due course we took a ride on roads with quite a lot of gravel and mud. Jupiter is equipped with rear gas shock absorbers which became handy in this terrain with a pillion rider. A ride at 25-30 kmph was a bit trembling, which heated the engine a bit further than running on highway and city.

Bumps and street flaw were managed in a neat way, the telescopic forks function admirably to give a plaint ride. Handling is extremely positive and the Jupiter is quite fun to ride. When we were back home Jupiter had just returned over 50 kmpl mileage, which isn’t really bad at all. The Jupiter appears to be shockingly great from various perspectives yet like each time we enthusiast make sob points. Like the requirement for more power, more torque. However the quality for cash recommendation basically can't be ignored. The TVS Jupiter is few thousands less expensive than the Honda Activa and you get considerably more features as well. Dependability and quality which TVS has demonstrated through the Wego makes the JUPITER a scooter you essentially can't overlook. What you can overlook however is the business sector pioneer for the last time by considering the best option constructed as of recently and the Jupiter is by all accounts the one in the 110cc scooter segment.

Pros

? Pass-light

? Econometer

? Reserve fuel light indication

? Parking lamps and LED tail lamp

? External Fuel filling

? Good amount of leg space

Cons

? Reported that sound appears from rear end of the scooter.

? Need disc brakes if one is doing great speeds.

? Vibrations at higher speeds.

Verdict:

The underrated TVS Jupiter is in fact a performer and an all-rounder, once used to be the highest selling scooter for TVS after Scooty, the Jupiter is indeed a competition for the Japanese counterparts. With some drawbacks that can be overseen, overall the TVS Jupiter is value for money. And if you are not obsessed with Japanese brands and can live with few niggles, the Jupiter is a one for you which will give you everything you could ask from a 110cc scooter.
