Pros:
Discourse
Cons:
The length of movie

What makes me interest of this movie is that I am now working on the topic of Indian Diaspora in Bollywood movie. I think its discourse is not to criticize the one who works aboard.

At the
beginning, we saw " Air India" descending to the motherland. those who left the country might feel the same when the national carrier is going to touch the runway. By the way, Air India is the representation of easy migration. The hidden reason why most NRI can’t not come back is just because their education is not designed to be used locally.

I totally disagree when Geeta blames Mohan of leaving motherland while the country is in need of the NRI for domestic development. You can see that when he tried to give a comment, the villager who is the landlord said " you don’t belong to here, you are just a visitor, how could know better than us".

For politics of migration, I think those who have left this country were forced involutarily. Education is investment. Supposed that you borrowed 30,000 US dollar from your mum, how can you pay back if you work in a village in Uttrachal predesh. In the same way, I don’t know how Mohan can use his degree in space engineering in the rural area, so he has to move back to the US.

The electricity cut shows how bad of the infrastrature of the country. However, there was one girl who is willing to stay and make the village more pleasant to live. The movie directly stresses the issue of Education that women were left for higher education. Worse, the outcaste unspeakably has to bear this suffer.

It seemed to me that the movie want to criticize the way of thinking that Mohan holds the western idea, and does not believe in Indian traditional way of thinking. I think Mohan has colonial mind at first, as he thinks everything western is better. The comfortable seat on the aircraft shows the obvious contrast to the 3rd class train.

The producer, intentionally, shows the brand of Detol shower cream in his car representing his doubt on the hygiene of rural India. The water in the bottle is a metaphor of the rejection of being Indian. At last, he drink water from the poor boy meaning that he accept his Indianness. The breaking point is the box containing of herbs that made him realize the sense of India. However, the length of the movie is too long for non-Indian viewers.By Thai’s standard, this movie is much better than any Thai films.

The bad thing about this movie is that it’s too easy to predict, and the actress reveals everythings on what she think. ( we all are not primary school student who just can not guess )
