I watched Swades last night on TV. It is good but not brilliant. Shahrukh is good as the archtypical "know it all" NRI on a visit to his village, although I really wish he would not smoke on screen -
what sort of message is that even for his own kids? The theme is good, Shahrukh appreciates tradition and uses his tech skills to provide electricity for his village - promoting the message that rather than depend on a useless government, we can do wonders if we put in our own efforts - somewhat like what Anna Hazare has done in Ralegaon Siddhi. The person who acts as the would be migrant to the USA to open a dhaba on their highways, is brilliant. The rest of the cast though good, are just a part of the fixtures. Cinematography is spectacular, music so - so. The Rama - Ravana Dussehra play was very well enacted, a spectacle worth watching in its own right. The end was good when Shahrukh chooses to return to India.
