After a long gap......a full fledged movie with a purpose....Narrated with proper sense and perfection.
Swades is the tale of a Successful NRI, Mohan Bargava who works as a Project Manager for NASA’s
Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) project. Though circumstances could not make him to accommodate his childhood nanny (Kaveriamma...whom he treats as his mother) with him he longs to bring her to the US to have her with him. With hopes to bring her back from the ashram, he goes on a trip to India.

In his search for Kaveriamma, he is forced to stay in a Village (Charanpur) without fundamental facilities, illiteracy and caste-ism for couple of weeks. This makes him realize the life of people outside the US and gives him an inner feeling to work for the people to help in improving their living standard. The movie has many inspiring scenes. To list a few.....

1. The train scene where he gets water from a boy for 25 paise ignoring his mineral water cans.
2. The scene in which a old grandma says "bijili" after the power plant starts working and the bulb is lit.
3. The discussion at the festival with the villagers in which Mohan explains on where we are in the global scale but still boasting on our culture and tradition.

The moving had a perfect ending....Mohan does not stay back ignoring his work at NASA. Instead he goes back completes his task and comes back which makes the plot more realistic. Swades is more of an exploration and realization movie giving a thought provoking call not only to Indians living abroad but to all Indian’s in common.

The situations and characters have been portrayed in a controlled manner and this contributes to the first triumph of the movie. The greatest relief is that the way the rural India is portrayed....without evil villains and sharp weapons. This would be a milestone for Shahrukh as an Actor who exceeds all the expectations, the mannerism and maturity that he shows in acting is fantastic. Hats off to Ashutosh Gowariker for taking up a innovative experiment. The music score is pretty amazing....Excellent work by AR.

A full time interesting and thought provoking movie......don’t miss it!
